Root Changing Carrier Name?

Is there a known way to change the carrier name on the start screen and notification bar from "virgin mobile" to whatever have tried these methods thus far with no success: *Editing the build.prop file
*The app "Carrier Name"
*Going in to the eri.xml file and searching for "virgin mobile" but it's not there
*A brief period in cdma workshop (Didn't try much)
Note:In cdma workshop under "banner" it shows random numbers and letters when it should say "virgin mobile".

Thanks to all of y'all in advance!

There is this app [APP]carrier name - xda-developers but I haven't tried it on the Triumph. I tried it on my Nexus S and it didn't work.

*Update* I tried it and it didn't work for the Triumph either.

Isn't it an image in the framework-res.apk?
There is an option while your in the kitchen for carrier name on one of the pages.

No, i have tried extracting eri.xml from the framework-res.apk and when I do you are supposed to change the wording "virgin mobile" to something else in a hex editor except the words "virgin mobile" are no where to be found so that method is a dead end. I'm thinking that vm or motorola tried extra hard to keep us fellow android users out of changing the carrier name but i assume it's only a matter of time until someone figures out in the directory where it's hidden.

Guys,

I've moved this thread to the all-things-root sub-forum for you.

Also, you all are on the right track re. the framework-res.apk file. I've have modded this file myself for my Droid X. There's probably a few ways to do it: apktool, apkmanager (I think that's right), hex editing the .apk file directly, etc.

I can't tell you exactly how it'll work for you on the Moto Triumph since I don't own that phone and can't test it properly and post any instructions, but I can tell you that there are indeed several (many, in fact) occurances of the string "Virgin Mobile" in the framework-res.apk file.

I took the framework-res.apk file example download from this thread:

http://androidforums.com/triumph-all-things-root/396000-blur-style-framework-res-mod.html

and found lots of references to "Virgin Mobile" in the following two files (in their relative directories in the structure of the .apk file):

res/values/strings.xml
res/values-es-rUS/strings.xml

Additionally, a hex edit of the above framework-res.apk file yields several instances of "Virgin Mobile", the first starting at hex address 50C4C7.

By the way, you might get some sage / better advice from the folks in the above thread, especially the OP, apsterling.

Cheers and good luck!
