changing ruu

hi i have de-branded o2 desire which i think if memory serves me i used the goldcard and shippedroms ruu for installing 2.29.405.2 and have had a couple of pop alerts to the update 405.5 but stupidly tried to install it once before reading on here that you cant so now i just disregard the ota update but curiosity is getting the better of me and ive downlaoded the new 405.5 from shippedroms and want to update the new ruu.couple of things though bothering me are 1,will my sd card with the gold card work ok and will it be totaly wiped of music vids and pics??im going to use backup pro for apps but got loads of my kids pics and wouldnt want to loose them.thanks for any advice H :D
 
if your sdcard is your gold card thats fine
it wipes the phone not the card, anything "stored" within the micro SD will stay intact
 
Failed flash is the worst but tbh its unlikely. Just boot the phone in FASTBOOT with the gold card inside, connect to the PC and run the RUU and you should be OK
 
thanks eddie,so do i go into fastboot 1st then connect phone and run or connect phone and then fastboot and run?ive noticed folk talking about htc sync on pc does that run or do you disable it???
 
From off hold back and power to get to fastboot. When at the screen plug usb in. When screen says fastboot.usb, run the ruu from pc


Or connect phone when on in HTC sync mode and run the ruu. This is where sync comes into play.

Personally I think relying on HTC sync is scary as its the worst application of this type I have used.
 
right guys tried both methods and keep getting error(-5001:0x800700002)
is the ruu i downloaded a duffer or is it something else??
 
eddie the file size is 70mb the 1st one i tried was 14mb,the old 405.2 i still have lets me run but this one just flashes up the error and says shut down other programs but nothing is running:mad: im stumped as i git the ruu from shipped roms and dont know where else or what else to try.im not clued up on the rooting and that stuff...
 
Shipped roms sometimes drops the download so you end up with half an ruu.

Someone may be able to.point you to an alternative dl
 
your a star eddie thanks alot my good man,everything went like clock work.wee Q,how do you update the android market app.i notice ive got the old style again.no biggie but i liked the layout of the new version.cheers again
 
After I flashed back to 2.29.405.5 I used the Market once, closed it and the next time I opened it had updated. I didn't do anything!!
