Root changing the bubbles in default messaging?

can someone please correct me if im wrong, but from adb commander,
copy app from system\ app\ mms.apk, preferably into another folder on my drive.
right click mms.apk,
open archive from 7zip then
mms.apk\ res\ drawable, and its the four labeled "balloon_bg_etc, etc.png"

modify to my liking, save, recopy my original (or move to pc) mms.apk, and push to right side, then hit regular reboot?

or am i missing something?
if it keeps it up from my pos laptop, i'll just ask if i can get a copy of someones..... take the lazy way:argh:
i've tried it a couple times now and it force closes on me, same names, just a different color when viewed.

drawable-hdpi right? NOT drawable.

I have this problem with swype sometimes. This is what I do.

Delete the app from system/apps

Take your NEW mms.apk and place it in data/apps

Reboot. See if its working. If not. Cut it from data/apps and place it in system/apps and try that.

System apps can be finicky.
 
These bubbles when I change the color of them and push the apk back into the phone they show off to the side so I had to resize them :(
 
superuser, you got a pic of how far to the side and what size did you edit/resize too?

got it, thanks for your help. also found a problem, my laptop doesnt save as a .png, it is saving as a .PNG, which also comes up as a page and not a pic for an icon.

i ripped idriftas mms to mod for now :-D
