Charge died today...

I got it from Costco just so I could get grandfathered into the unlimited plan back on July 1st. I've never really liked the Charge and in fact I told the Costco kiosk folks from square one that if something like the SGS2 were to come out in my 90 days that I'd want to return it. I don't know if they just wanted a new line of sale that day or what, but they were like "yeah that's no problem!" Still, I didn't want to be "that guy" just because I could; I decided a couple days ago to just stick with the Charge.

Well this evening I plugged it into the generic charger that Verizon replaced my official charger with (long story-- my original charger was squealing but apparently they aren't able to replace official chargers with other official chargers so I got stuck with this generic one) and I picked it up a while later and it was really hot. I unplugged it and let it cool down, but when I tried to turn it on I didn't get anything. This charger has always made my Charge behave very erratically whenever it's plugged in and in fact I tried to get my original charger back but Verizon couldn't or wouldn't give it back.

So, this may have been the straw that broke the camel's back. Like I said, I've never liked the Charge but never enough to really warrant returning it. I think I'm going to just say so-long to the Charge and get a Bionic this Thursday, though...

See, a valid claim. I'd have no prob changing it out if that were the case. Still, I'd try to replicate the prob first. ;)

Keep this in mind, however. And I'm not speaking as a WSE here, but as someone who thinks like one. We are getting a very limited amount of Bionics in. Six to each store in my region to be exact. A sale is simply one sale, even if it's exchanged. So if you're beyond the 14 days that you can exchange the phone, you want the Bionic, but they only have six and they're flying out the door, who's gonna get it? They could sell five phones and one exchange, or they can sell six? Ya feeling me?

This is just a fair warning.

My Charge is heading into retirement as soon as the Bionic drops. I really love the screen on the Charge, but I've been seeing some drag on it, battery is ehhh, not as good as it was the first 2 months or so...And honestly Samsung is dragging its legs on bringing some 2.3 love this way... vzw is to blame just as much as upgrades go! But moto is usually pretty quick for the most part. We all know the Bionic will rock, I just hope it performs just as well as a phone! I'm a phone whore, what can I say..lol

It looks like my Costco's aren't even getting the Bionic in tomorrow, and they don't know when they'll be receiving any. So I just had them replace my Charge -_- This one is even quirkier than my first one. It bugs out hard when turning on the screen sometimes, and drops to 1x constantlyyyy. :sigh:

Wow, really? That's amazing. I suppose that it does happen, though. Sorry to hear that. Have you rooted your Charge yet? If not, I bet you can fall in love all over again.

Yeah they said they were "hopeful" for the past week or so, but when I went in today they said they still hadn't received anything. I guess there's an outside chance that they'll receive some tonight, but I'm not holding my breath.

I haven't rooted yet, I haven't even taken all of the plastic wrapping off of it yet... Just in case.

Charge comes with a 1000mA charger, while generic ones are often 700mA. Can cause weird behavior while plugged in and extra-long charging, but probably not overheating.

You could try getting a cheap
1
compatible battery or two off eBay and using a beefier charger.

EDIT: Won't let me add the correct link; search eBay for 120773619332 for a cheap 1500mAh battery that works.

I was warned, but tried to exchange my busted Droid Charge for a new bionic. I was 5th in line even. But it was not to be. The policy is not to exchange for a different phone after 14 days, no exceptions. In fact they were reluctant to exchange my droid charge saying I needed to do it at the Verizon store, but I insisted that they at least give me a new Droid Charge there and then.

After they gave me a new charge I headed over to Verizon to get the Bionic at full price. The charge is going straight to ebay where it should sell for about 450. Not the deal I wanted today, but there is always a way around the man.

Those of you who are trying to buy a bionic from Costco just to turn around and "trade" it in for a Prime later are not going to be successful.
