Charge Vs Bionic

-javier-

Newbie
so i got my charge 4 days ago from Verizon, i have seen videos on the droid bionic and i dont know if its me but when i look at the screen quality the colors are not the same, also i think it moves slow being a dual core is it just me ? can someone give me any opinion

Well not including the touchwiz/blur (or whatever they call it now) debate, the Bionic is technically superior in every way except 1. The pentile lcd screen motoroloa is using sucks badly. Especially when compared to the unbeatable sAMOLED+ screen on the Charge. At least that's what I thought when I saw it on the X2. Assuming that screen doesn't bother you and the Bionic doesn't have any crippling bugs then the Bionic is the superior phone.

That said, if you're not averse to rooting your phone and installing custom ROMs I hear the voodoo lagfix kernal with the leaked Gingerbread ROM makes the Charge mighty quick.

I prefer the Bionic over the Charge but i have yet to really go and look for the videos of it. I have heard bad things about the screen but honestly I saw the Droid X2 and that screen is not bad at all.

it's really subjective

but i think for the most part, screen resolution aside, the bionic is superior in every way to the Charge.

The only thing the Charge has over the Bionic would be the screen and possibly the camera. Performance wise the bionic should kill the charge unless there are major flaws with it. We already know the screen will probably suck on the Bionic and who knows about the camera.

i really like the camera feature that samsung has put on the charge i use to have a samsung epic and the cam was great just like the charge.

Yeah Samsung has a great camera app. There are things I like about the Blur and Sense apps but Touchwiz is the most complete. I am just worried about the camera quality on the Bionic. I am sure it will be fine but the 5mp cameras moto has used in the past are terrible. As long as the camera is as good as or better then the x's it will be alright.

isn't the bionic's camera 8 mp?

Or is it Just 5?

If it is 8, i was going to say the Droid X had an awesome camera!

If it's 5, then my motorola droid had an awful camera.

I'd go for the Bionic in any circumstance UNLESS it has the same horrendous issues that the Charge does with regards to data and phone connections.
The specs of the Bionic are far superior, it will come pre-loaded with GB, and every Motorola phone I've owned in the past is tough as nails. (had a crazy ex throw one through a wall, literally, picked it up and it didnt even have a scratch on it)

Droid Charge has a gyroscope and accelerometer like the iphone
The Bionic doesnt have a gyroscope, it just has accelerometer only

forget the bionic ill just wait for verizon to come out with a dual galaxy s phone like the charge, that way i can enjoy both worlds a nice camera and a nice phone design i really like the samsung design as well. and what can i say SUPER AMOLED screen really rocks, so bring on Bionic ill wait for the verizon dual core samsung galaxy.

I read that the Bionic has a lot of the same issues that the Charge has. WTF? I was thinkin about buying one outright or using my upgrade.....but if it has rebooting issues etc. I'll wait.

any idea when this Verizon's Dual core SAmsung galaxy phone will be out?

I think I can fairly analyze this as I not only sell these phones, but own both of them as well.

The Bionic is superior in almost every way, save for one: screen quality. What you've heard about the Bionic's screen is true. The colors aren't as vibrant, the display isn't as vivid, and there is "pixelization" on the Bionic. When observing colors on the Bionic, most people will notice "dots". They're not extremely visible, and not everyone sees them. But I do, and it's only slightly annoying.

However, the screen on the Bionic serves two purposes. First, it's completely visible in direct sunlight; the sun has almost zero effect on the screen. Secondly, the PenTile matrix helps diminish the strain a display has on the battery. It's part of the reason why the Bionic has the best battery life of all 4G LTE devices.

There's a noticeable difference in the dual core's performance and the effect of 1GB of RAM. Whether it be screen transitions, app loading, or internet browsing, the Bionic is just that much quicker.

Do I think someone who owns a Charge should run out and pay full retail on a Bionic? No, not at all. There's no reason to pay $600 for a phone that isn't head and shoulders above the previous one. But it's as far ahead as you can expect a phone that's come out 4 months later to be. So if you're looking to upgrade and you're going to pay $300 for either phone, you're going to want the Bionic unless the screen clarity is of the up-most importance to you (which it def is for many consumers).

After owning the Bionic I returned it to stick with the Charge for now. The screen was pretty bad and the camera was even worse. The Bionic is the fastest device I have used so far but it was not worth the wait.

After going to the BGR Samsung event and checking out the new Galaxy S 2, it blows both the Bionic and my Charge away. Performance, looks and style. That is the must-have android phone to date.

If you root your Charge and add the right elements, there is no reason to switch over to a Bionic. If you don't have a Charge and are deciding between the two, it will come down to the screen I guess. If you aren't going to root, then getting a Bionic would make sense.

I have my Charge rooted, Voodoo Lagfix, GummyCharged FE 2.0 and EP1Q (soon to be EP1W) modems. This thing flies! I tried the Bionic in a Verizon store and my Charge keeps up with it. There is no reason for me to change phones just for similar performance and a crappier screen.

I will hold out for the Prime and if it's a beefed up Charge, I will maybe go for that.

I agree. After rooting the Charge, it is really zippy and the battery life is great. That and the pentile screen was the reason I am skipping the Bionic.

The Bionic is still faster then my rooted Charge. Battery life on the other hand there is no comparison, the Charge is way better.

I compared exact web sites my charge vs. guy's bionic and my AMOLED screen made his look black / white

"The Bionic is superior in every way except camera and display." Well, since those two features are among the most important features of a phone ...

Honestly, given those two features (best available screen, best available camera) along with the TouchWiz interface (which I personally really like) and native Swype keyboard, the Charge remains the best phone on the market for me. As for dual-core processing, since I'm not using my phone as a video editing tool or for other processor-intensive computing, I'm at a loss to understand why I need more power. Not suggesting anyone else shares my exact priorities, but for me the Charge is about as good a phone as I can have right now.

Sorry, I have to ask it, were you living in Japan? :D

After the previews and reviews of the Bionic that I've read, and from what I've read here at androidforums, in no way do I think the Bionic is worth the purchase. The phone's arrival was delayed, and while I'd like to think that it was for marketing reasons only, that's simply not the case. What happened is that the phone, as good as it looks on paper (specification-wise), had real issues. It would have been a bad move for the phone to be releases earlier than a phone with lesser specs that is just about as good a phone.

I have Sprint right now (last day is tomorrow) and have a GS2 Epic Touch. And it is the best ANdroid phone out. I also have a Charge that will be my daily driver cause I wantes the lte speeds. Although its no GS2 Epic it is a great phone and will hold me till Versions version drops .

i don't like Motorola for only one reason and i'm not gonna lie i had Motorola mpx220 back in 03 or 04 and the quality of their camera haven't changed since. I mean why is everything wrong in the picture the saturation the softness the exposure they all look foggy. I;ve tried to take pictures with Xoom and other Motorola devices at Best Buy and they all look p practically identical on all devices.

right picture droid bionic 2011 and on left mpx220 taken in 2003
