Help Charging without drivers

Sorry, no what I mean is, that when I plug my phone into the usb port on my work computer the phone doesn't charge,which im assuming is because I can't download or install the DX drivers on this computer. So my question is, is there any way when I plug my DX into this computer for it to chrage without the drivers.
You should be able to put your phone into charge only mode. When you plug the phone in to the usb on the computer you should get the USB icon in the notification bar on your Droid. Pulldown on the notification bar and press the USB info. It should give you the option to charge only.

Are your USB ports enabled? The USB ports where I work are normally disabled and we have to have a good business case to get them turned on.

I believe Windows needs to be able to load basic USB drivers in order to supply sustained power to the port. That's not a Motorola-specific thing.
If your USB drives are disabled or if they have completely locked down the loading of USB drivers, you may be out of luck.

I'm guessing they don't want to take it to work and risk leaving it there and have nothing at home. Granted they have the USB part there.

Well that aside, what if you are offsite in a meeting with a computer and you need to charge your device.
Seriously, knowing all your options is always a good thing people.
Like someone said, look at usb options on the DX and see if setting charge only will work without drivers (I honestly have never tried it and don't have a cable here today)
Next the whole, office IT nazis locking out the ports is a potential additional problem. and that you have no workaround for.
the software loading thing can be circumvented occasionally. I will say that without the creative drivers for my ZEN, it will not charge by usb any computer.

Interestingly enough I had a chance to try this out over the weekend before WhiteDeath 2011. (Its a memphis thing, between weatherorgasms on the TV and people running stores out of bread and TP its hilarious in some ways)
To the point. I was at the parental units domicile when I noticed my DX battery was in the red. Now I knew I was going to get in the car in a few hours but they do have a computer.
This computer (I bought for them 5 years ago) is not connected to the internet and has never been connected to my DX before. It also has never had any cell device connected to it that I know of. It is a windows XP machine.
for the time being I am on stock rom, with some bloat frozen with TI backup. So that might be part of the help here.
Once connected to the computer it would not charge, however the DX recognized that it was connected to a USB port. Thus USB options presented themselves on the notification bar.
At this point I tried "Charge Only". Low and behold the computer started loading Moto drivers and after about 20 seconds, the DX started charging. Again, this computer is not connected to the internet AT ALL.
I can only surmise that the DX holds charge only drivers on it, and there is some software push to a windows computer so that it will at least charge. I didn't try the other options, but no driver was loaded when I connected and I keep my phone rigged for PC Mode, most of the time.
Just thought I would mention this as it appears the DX will charge on a computer without the drivers installed, as it will try to install them on its own. I do think you will need admin like rights on that computer, but I don't know for certain. I also think this might only work on the stock rom.

Actually, Napalm, the phone doesn't hold the drivers and in fact XP did not load any specific Droid X or Motorola drivers. What it loaded was the built-in, super basic USB drivers (I know, I know, the bubble said it was a MOTOROLA DROID X, but that's just an identifier string on the device, and has nothing to do with the actual drivers) which are sufficient for charging.
That's all anyone should need to charge it.
Unfortunately, many businesses lock down USB drivers or disable them completely to prevent the movement of company data and/or the introduction of viruses into the system.
It's likely that the built-in drivers for any computer since Windows 98 Service Pack 2 (which was the beginning of real built-in USB support) will be adequate to simply charge the phone.

Good Point. I found it odd that it did have the device name and M8810 (something like that) and that it occured right after I selected usb option, charge only.
Also make sure you have the correct USB cable. I have a micro USB that is data only and it is missing the extra pins that carry the voltage to charge the device.
If you aren't using the OEM cable that came with the Droid, make sure it has the pins to carry voltage and not just data.
