CheckROM Revolution v4.0

Hello All,

I've recently started rooting and playing around and am slowly (cautiously) finding my way.

Anyway, I'm running Checkrom 4 and recently installed a new kernel for improved battery life. I settle on NEAK from the Kitchen but if I'm honest, I don't find the battery to be any better than with the kernel I already had (which I assume was Samsung stock).

I've not idea how to change to Siyah other than installing it over the top of NEAK and also don't know if that would be the best option. I have read that installing a new modem will make a world of difference but what do you guys think? And is this as easy a process as installing a ROM or Kernel through CWM as I have read reports of phones being rendered useless as a result.

Would any of you guys have any modem recommendations please?
My details are:
Baseband: I9100XXK14
Kernel: 2.6.35.14-g9aa3dbsimone@ubuntu#N.E.A.K-1.1x

I did also download setCPU and changed the parameters but it made little difference other than disrupting the music player when the screen was off

:-/

Thanks in advance guys!!

Back to Siyah 2.6.12 kernel. Before that I was testing Speedmod which seems to be fast and battery saver but suddenly all my icons disappeared from the home screen (all but the four launchers). They also dissapeared from Applications. Very weird. Did this happened to any of you? If so, any explanation?

Don't know what happened. So I decided to go back to Siyah but not taking voltages to the edge (only lowered them by 25mV and min=200 Max= 1200. By now didn't touch Low power state). We'll see how battery behaves.

Another thing I didn't like about Speedmod is its Recovery. For instance, you can't access to the external sd to look for restore files (at least, I didn't find how).

That's it. I just wanted to share my experience.

Thanks,
Glore2002.-

That's a very old version of N.E.A.K., (v1.1). The latest version, which I am currently using and rivals Siyah, is 1.3.3 and can be downloaded here:-

[KERNEL][5.02.12][VooDoo][OTA] N.E.A.K. Kernel for I9100 - Think Different! (v1.3.3x) - xda-developers

UPDATE Can now be downloaded via Kitchen Pro.

For detailed instructions on installing Siyah, see here:-

This also contains details on how to use and set Voltage Control which is a better alternative to SetCPU that you are currently using.

UPDATE Siyah 2.6.12 can also now be downloaded and installed via the Kitchen Pro app.

You can, of course, use CheckROM's Kitchen Pro app to choose from a selection of modems to install. Not really come across any problems experienced by people flashing modems.
The latest modems, LP6 and LPB, are getting very good reviews, I'm using LPB, and can be downloaded as a .zip file and either flashed using CWM or manually, through Recovery. They are not firmware dependent. For the latest modems, see here:-

Hope this helps. :D

A massive thank you Ironass for this. I realise all our newbie questions can be a bit annoying but it's all a minefield and it makes a real difference to have such helpful people here! Thanks!!
