checkrom version 3.0 out

I must say that I find CheckROM 3.1.1 very good.

I was not a big fan of it when I last tried it, on v2.0 I think, but I like this ROM and its Kitchen app. I find it very reliable and usable.

If anything, it has become a victim of its own success. We all rushed to install v3.1.1 before its official release on xda which was being delayed until the Kitchen app was ready and it turned out to be one of the worst kept secrets on xda!

Personally, the lack of a fully working Kitchen app did not bother me too much as I'm used to manually flashing add-on's and work around's.

The Kitchen for 3.1.1 is now growing daily and new items are being added constantly. It is the Kitchen app, after all, that sets it apart from some other custom ROM's.

I would certainly have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this ROM to anyone, and in particular, those new to rooting and custom ROM's.

For me, this will be a keeper for the time being. That doesn't mean to say that I won't be flashing other ROM's... I will. In fact I have a back log of custom ROM's that I've been meaning to try.

I'm guessing, that with the release yesterday of the Ice Cream Sandwich source code, that a lot of developers will be devoting their time to this and less to new Gingerbread custom ROM's.

I'm awaiting DlevROM's KJ offering and will certainly give that a go when released, but that will be it for me for a while, and like you said butty, with ICS source being released, I think there will probably be a lull of new roms coming out over the next few weeks while developers devote their time to their respective ICS releases.

I've put the CWM4/5 compatibility issue regarding kitchen updates over to the XDA thread, and as usual I have been totally blanked. :(

Sorry guys, just to clarify...

If I want any mods from the kitchen (the camera mod, for example), I mark it for downloading and download it, but I do NOT install. Instead I boot into recovery, find the downloaded zip file in the downloads folder and run the installation from there. That right?

depends if your on CWM4 or 5
if CWM4, just go for it. Mark for installation, download then install.
if CWM5, Mark for installation, download, then cancel. Then reboot into CWM recovery and install the zip file manually. It will be in sdcard/download/CheckROM_REVO

Ill come back when 3.0 is as compatible with CWM as 1.0 and 2.0 were when I installed them. Ive done enough tinkering now and just want a stable phone. Ive lost one before.

Fonr now the kitchen is still in an early build state , it has far less than the previous model did and just dones't work. You'd be better uing the UOT kitchen for now. Especially as you need to enter recovery mode to install anything right now anyway.

Its fine for those with time and for those that enjoy switching their phones on and off constantly to update / backup , recover , change kernal, install theme ,etc. For me ..Im done. 2.0 did all of this much better.

Are CheckRom in competition with Mozilla firefox for record amount of updates in one month?

Others on CWM5 are reporting mods install ok via the kitchen.

i've just re-tested installing a mod from the kitchen now and when rebooting, the screen scrolls very quickly and for a split second I see an exclamation mark icon, and the splash screen then shows. The screen disappears far too quickly too even begin to read so I cant say if any error was being reported.

If I reboot into recovery and manually install the .zip, then its fine.

strange then, as when i put nimph2.1.3 on (with CWM 4.0.0.2), mods install without a glitch 100% via the kitchen installation.

Other possible relevant info: I'm on
Siyah v2.2 Beta6
CWM Recovery 5.0.2.7
CWM Manager v3.0
superuser v3.0.6
Su binary v3.0.3

My guess is that CWM5 is defaulting to expecting to see the zip on the external sd card, and the kitchen downloads it to the sdcard, or the mount point name differs

New apps that have suddenly appeared including "Download ALL" "contact remover" and "Analog". Could be old but ive only just noticed them. :)

EDIT: New themes in the kitchen just updated +BLN

I'm not a theme lover as I invariable stick to stock look (apart from the circle battery mod), but out of curiosity I tried the ICS theme, and got a boot loop.

And does anyone know leo/gadget's thinking behind as to why they downgraded the version of Swype from 3.8.86 to 3.25.91 on this version of the ROM?

I think I have sorted what is happening with regards to installing mods from the kitchen when CWM 5.0.2.7 is installed. It is definately an internal sdcard/external sd card issue

if I take out my external sd card, then install a mod from the kitchen, on reboot, CWM5 then polls for 20 seconds to try to mount the external sd card. After which it fails. However, after its given up on the external sd card, the update gets installed successfully.

I think when CWM5 boots and finds an external sd card, it mounts the internal sd card to a different mount point/name, so installer can no longer find the dowloaded zip file.

I think it was Shotgun84, is he still alive? Who mentioned that he felt that the older version was working better than the new one.

Hopefully, someone will take notice of your posted findings over on xda... but I won't hold my breath. :D

He's probably suffering with a good few ferrets in head!

I'm not holding my breath there neither butty. No reaction over there as yet. I wonder why i bother sometimes! :)

Yeah, just about.
I've noticed that the downgrade seems to be more accurate. There used to be particular words which always came up with random suggestions but I don't have that problem anymore.

Same with me. The boot looked nice though. Apparently they said to clear some caches before the manual install.

I reinstalled 3.1.1 to try and remove the ICS theme, but that just removed CWM! So I flashed a different kernel (speedmod) to get the phone running. It's still without CWM though lol. If my phone reboots, it just hangs. Ah, the joys of testing new roms.

When I get time, I'll do a full wipe and install a fresh 3.1.1 (which will be at version 5 by then lol).

Not much cooking going on in the Kitchen lately.

I usually find this to be the case. There are the same mods etc for each version and once this stage has been reached, then that is pretty much it, until the next firmware version.

I would quite like to see a full screen picture caller ID mod for incoming calls. This was available in CheckROM but not in CheckROM Revolution.

I'm also amazed that Gadget/Leo has not included JKay deluxe settings as one of the apps, as the two work so well hand in hand together.

It would also be very nice to have a central repository of CWM Recovery versions to be able to install, as now I am so used to CWM 5.0.2.7, I rather miss it when I go back to CWM4.

Yeah I noticed that not much was going on as well. I'm hoping this means they are spending their time on ics instead of improving this one.
