Christmas 25

We are closing in on yet another Christmas. It doesn't seem at all possible that the holiday is nearly here. I'm not all humbug this year but I haven't really embraced the season for it is arriving way too fast. I hope everyone has an enjoyable holiday season and get to share some time with friends and family. Hugs to all.

We are going to do what we can afford for presents this time around, I will get my friend an energy savor for his heaters, as well as some lights for his place.
I just want a few things, not going to be spoiled either.
Whatever I do get from my brother-in-law it is alright as well.

Yesterday we returned home from a romantic weekend at a log cabin, right on the creek, in the Smoky Mountains for our 35th anniversary. Fireplace, fur blanket, whirlpool tub on the deck... and because it's the weekend before Christmas, the adjacent cabins were unoccupied so we had the freedom to...

I'll spare further details because this is still a semi-family friendly site. But OMG what a weekend!!!

My date night got fogged in. We had to cut our Christmas light looking short because the dense fog of this morning rolled in again tonight. Visibility was very limited when we finally gave it up. Oh well.. it was an adventure. Merry Christmas.

This afternoon as I was finishing my bike ride, I rode by a lady friend who was unloading her shopping. I stopped to wish her Merry Christmas. She had two boys that were my around my son's age who did a lot of sports with my son. She was telling me her frustrations buying goodies for her grandkids. Some were later than scheduled shipping and she was worried they weren't going to show up in time. One item she bought she put together but it was missing a key piece that she wasn't about to get a replacement part tomorrow. On and on she her plans for the little guys were ruined. Then she summed it all up by saying... well it is Christmas... very typical Christmas.. ho ho

My first date with my wife was early December 1972. I invited her to go look at Christmas lights with me and afterwards we stopped and had a coffee and donut. It has been a family tradition ever since and we've not missed a year. Tonight is the night for that repeat date.

Congratulations on finding each other...and still seeing the light in each other's eyes.

Our former tax deduction son took PTO today and will be here until Sunday to spend the long Christmas weekend with us. Due to expenses like our kitchen cabinet refacing (which was eye-watering), we're keeping gifts very, very modest this year. We didn't even put up a tree, since there would be scant little under it (and we didn't have time to do it anyway). Still, it will be nice to have him here. I'm thawing out a 7-pound USDA Prime rib roast, which I'll put on the rotisserie tomorrow and have, for the first time ever, prime rib for Christmas.

We are having come and go kids tomorrow. We aren't cooking a dinner for a change. We have some snack trays and cold drinks to share this year. When you are the grandparent and the great grandparent you enjoy the time you are allotted as well as the time slot. And for a pleasant change of pace, the wife isn't insisting we make a meal that takes up our fun time and the kids don't have to eat multiple Christmas dinners.

Given the cost of prime rib, and the gift of family together, those sound like wonderful presents, regardless whether they are under a tree. May your time together be sweet and gentle, with warm memories (to last as least as long as the new cabinet facia!).

Sounds like a wonderful plan all around.

My wife and I are hosting my sister's family (they hosted TG) and are doing the full bird festival. Not looking forward to an early morning (dinner is early at 1 PM) but I know we'll enjoy the results as well as the company.

Enjoy... It's special to share time with friends and family over the holiday. Make great memories.

so it will be a quiet xmas eve and day for me and my family. its gonna be just my mom and me tomorrow morning. then some of my friends are going to be popping in for an early dinner. i am making prime rib with potato gratin and glazed carrots and sugar snap peas and maybe a cuccumber salad...not sure what my fiends are bringing. i just did a dry brine of the prime rib and is sitting in the fridge until tomorrow. i also bought an apple pie and pumpkin pie from Marie Calendars.

i say quiet because i usually go to my cousins house, but his family is huge and there are usually around 30-40 people that show up with kids of all ages.....and that is not quite quiet enough for me....lol. i have been working 50 hours+ the past couple of weeks and i really just need a more relaxed environment.

Well we went last night for church service, my sister and her husband, with her mother-in-law went over to the local church down here, techically our old Alma Matta high school, and so my sister was insane trying to drive throughout the thickness of the fog,but we survived, I am feeling a lot better from the fall I had on Tues. night, the dog's foot caught mine as I stepped landed on my back, I made the sound aborsion on my hands too, everything is feeling pretty well.

Yesterday after service had turkey soup and fix your own salad bar, my mother was still cooking it for a spell, we opened up our gifts early last night,
I finally downloaded a few fan favorites through google play just a few moments ago, I feel guilty of not giving my mother a gift though for Christmas, but I will make it up to her.
