Help Chrome: Desktop site

So, I know Chrome offer the "Request desktop site" but I feel like thus is a temp solution. For instance, with Facebook and The Verge I have to click here every time I load the page. With The Verge it is worse because I always get the mobile site even if I request desktop. Even more annoying on my XOOM. I don't want mobile view on my 10" screen, lol.

So, my question: is there a setting that I can tweak for always desktop mode?

What seemed to work for me was to open the site, request desktop site.... then bookmark it. After that, I always go through my bookmarks and always get the desktop site.

I do the same thing Tim does, but that's a poor solution to what should be a feature of the browser. Geez my old BB Storm had a "always view desktop" option.
