Help City ID... how do you uninstall?

WTF is with this? So am I going to get spam nag screens asking me to pay for this useless program forever?

yeah - that doesn't seem right. I would expect the proper user experience to be to give you a notification after the trial period is over - give you a choice to either buy or uninstall at that point. Sure hope we don't get repeated notifications.

I'm hoping that, after the 15 day trial, it gives an option to decline and put an end to it. In the meantime, though, it's really, really annoying.

Has anybody just tried deleting the file in Astro instead of uninstalling?

Edit: Nevermind, can't even delete the damn file :(

Hopefully it gives an option to rid after trial, it should be a free app, afterall you can just go to yellow book or some crap to find the info if you really need it right?

Wow...really? I still have a 11 days left for my trial and I can't believe htc/verizon didn't think about the nagging signup shit. Can't wait for the phone to be rooted.

I never opened or "installed" it, so of course, I don't get any nags, but couldn't you do a reset? Won't that take you back to before you installed City ID?

Well, it comes pre-installed in the phone. I cleared the data and forced stop it. Not sure if that is good enough. We'll see in 2 weeks.

Is anyone actually plan on keeping City ID after the trial is up? If so, am I overlooking any hidden benefits to paying $3/mo that would change my original thought of this being way over-priced? Just curious as I have yet to see or read anyone stating how it's worth the money. I'm not overly concerned about the charge itself but I'd hate to support something that does not have the best interest of the consumers in mind. Especially since it doesnt' seems overly necessary because most of my incoming calls will be from someone in my contact list. Just curious to hear what you all think. :)

Has anyone actually seen nag screens yet? I opened it up once or twice because I didn't know what it was -- I didn't know it was a subscription app until I read this thread.

I agree that it's pretty stupid to include such a useless app installed as a default, but I've yet to see a nag screen from it. For all we know, you could decline it once and that would be the end of it.

I got the nag screen a few times, thank god its not just me or I was gunna flip. This is the same crap I delt with on the BB side as well. So many of these preinstalled / pushed apps that come installed or "magically appear".

I havn't used an android device on verizon until now, but I hope I dont start seeing shortcuts for "bing" and various other apps pushed to my phone. One thing that made me want to smash my berry was when verizon pushed a Bing only search to the browser....

Yeah there is a nag screen after almost every call. You have two choices, Purchase and Continue to use Trial. There needs to be an uninstall and/or disable/never use again button.

Well, when I start to get the nag screen I've got a plan. Every time I get a nag screen, I'll be dialing *611 and nagging the VZ customer svc reps. I'm just going to call them and tell them that I don't want the app and nag screens and that I'll be calling every time I get it until it's changed. Everyone should do this.

I don't have the nag screens yet, and I didn't "start" the program. I know it was pre-installed, but the only reason I looked into it was I run task killer and like to keep my running apps at a minimum(ocd thing) and wondered why it is always there even though I kill it. My wife had this preinstalled on her ENV3 and at the end of the trial it gave the option to subscribe or not, and it didn't keep bothering her after that. I genuinely can't understand why anyone would care about an app like this. Complete waste of space. VZW must get a nice cut of that monthly fee though.

They know if it keeps popping up enough times, nagging people, then a lot of people will hit the subscribe button just to get rid of it or even accidentally. And most who do that will never think about it again and never look into the extra $2 on their bill.

"Free" $ for Vz. Big Scam IMO.

I thought I had accidentally installed this at some point, so I am glad to learn I am not alone. I think I've tried every uninstaller on the market...none of them will get rid of this thing. Oh well

I e-mailed the company that makes City ID over the weekend. They said that, after 15 days, you can completely disable the nagging. I also made it very clear to them how annoying their advertising method is and just how sure I am that they'll never receive a dime from me.

Here's their page if you'd like to let them know how you feel - Cequint | The Answer to Who is Calling

Oh, and if you force stop the app and clear its data, it'll just restart when you next receive a call, and it'll reset the free trial counter to 15 days, so DON'T DO THAT.

Thanks for the information.
