A ROM is...... a Theme with a kernal?

A Theme is.....simply just that a theme/skin

A KERNAL is..... a mod to the processor?

Can anyone break this down anyfurther for me, Am I understanding this correctly? So a ROM can be installed....then a theme flashed over it and the system will still run on the ROM specs but have a different "theme" to it if flashed with a diff theme?

when a theme is installed, all apps stay on the phone right?

When a ROM is installed, all apps are removed, basically to a factory reset of whatever the ROM includes?

Exactly when are the WIPES necessary? Only when installing a ROM and theme or just the ROM?

k when u install a custom rom you must do a wipe data/factory reset/wipe cache / wipe dalvik cache, u do those wipes only when installing a rom.when flashing a rom everything is wipe out its like a new phone coming out a box, thats y u should always have a backup of ur current rom b for u do anything to ur phone just to b on the safe side.

When installing a theme or kernel u only wipe cache /dalvik cache, WHEN U INSTALL A THEME U WILL STILL HAVE ALL UR APPS.:d

a Rom is the Operating system retooled to how ever the creator of the Rom wants it. Like upping the speed of the possessor, taking out system apps that aren't needed.

A Theme is just changes to the look, kind of like a skin or how you customize the look of windows 7.

wipes are usually just needed for the Rom, but some themes need them too. Usely if a theme needs to have a wipe it will say in the listing for it.

Hope this helps.

ROM means Read Only Memory,ROMs are oftentimes faster, more efficient, and use less memory.
kernel essentially means the heart of the OS, it's the barebones operating system components.
