I have been using CMs clean master for many months now and its been pretty good. But I recently got the samsung smart manager and that does pretty much the same things I think

Which if any are the better of these 2 apps and are there actually any differences in performance? Is the smart manager just a basic version. I did notice that one part of the samsung app is actually powered by clean master. I was just wondering if i could remove both of clean masters apps or is that not a good idea?

Thanks in advance

To be honest i wasnt convinced that they were doing a great deal. Is the smart manager ok though?

Cheers

There are a thousand messages here on the ills of anything from Cheetah Mobile. My personal experience with Clean Master was that four days in a row it reported freeing 1GB+ of space. One of those days I did NOTHING.

A great alternative ...
SD Maid – remove junk from SD cards
SD Maid – System Cleaning Tool – free version
SD Maid Pro - Unlocker – unlock paid

I have used SD Maid Pro for well over a year.

I thought exactly the same with clearing over a gb of so called junk

One thing i did like though is whenever i download apps it gave me the option to put it on my sd card automatically

I highly recommend before using any apps always find out who puts its out. Search the forums about the reputation of these companies and their products before downloading and using them. There are many companies out there putting out there garbage just to get access to your information so they can sell it. Always know where an app comes from before installing it.

I will from now on. I am usually pretty wary of what I download and as said previously in the post I didn't believe half of what CM was telling me on a daily basis. Ironically thinking about it, it hasn't told me to clean any junk etc for the last few days. I will just continue to use this smart manager which just appeared the other day.

Thanks

Thing is, the Samsung "Smart Manager" is itself provided by Cheetah Mobile. Has anyone who owns a device that includes it tested to see whether it is clean, or whether it is also exporting data to Cheetah Mobile?

I'd like to think that Samsung made sure it was ok before including it, but they are not the manufacturer with the best reputation when it comes to software.

That is true, I forgot about that, even though I mentioned this earlier. Is it a program that can be uninstalled if needs be or is it one of those typical programs that will stay forever. I can't check myself at the moment as my phone is currently off charging as the battery needs recallibrating.

Cheers

See if I follow this ...
  • Cheetah Mobile is proven to be a dishonest and dangerous organization.
  • They bought the most popular gallery app in the world and in an update "improved" it.
  • The little endeavor called ... Play Store ... continues to distribute their products.
  • This one that Samsung distributes MAY be OK.
My conclusion ... once a liar ... always a liar ... if you use any product from them you are delusional.

How great does something have to be for me to prove it is not detrimental and then how much time do I have to spend monitoring it for future tweaks that make it detrimental?

If this is Cheetah Mobile product distributed by Samsung then Samsung is endorsing Cheetah Mobile. Samsung should be ashamed and withdraw it.

You are judged by the company you keep.

I'm not sure about the uninstall however you may be able to disable it through settings apps or app manager

You might be able to use an app called Network Connections to see whether it is connecting to any sites it shouldn't be (i.e. to Cheetah Mobile).

Task killers are well known to be unnecessary and counter-productive, so the fact that Samsung included this thing at all tells me that Samsung's marketing people make the decisions rather than the software engineers. Choosing Cheetah Mobile to provide it also shows that the decision was not made by people who pay attention to the Android world at levels other than sales figures. That's why I don't trust them to have made sure it is clean before including it.

This was widely commented on when they first released it with the S6, but Samsung don't seem to have paid any attention.

Samsung Smart Manager, it shows as a system app called "Cheetah Mobile Clean Master SDK". On a China Unicom version Samsung Note 3 I was looking at, it couldn't be disabled. Oppo Find 7 has ""Cheetah Mobile Clean Master SDK" as well, and again can't be disabled. But I rooted that phone, and removed it that way. Oppo's latest phones like R7 series, don't have Clean Master at all. :thumbsupdroid:

When it comes to clear the JUNK files, only Clean Master will work better as compared to others. Give a try & experience something new.

As someone who HAS experienced Clean Master, and the problems it caused on devices, I really wouldn't want to recommend this to anyone. And that's ignoring all the security and privacy problems it has.

Aside from all the problems it potentially causes it also becomes annoying when it sends out notifications 3-4 times a day saying junk needs cleaning etc

I can see just how annoying it can be, with the snakeoil lies it gives. Oppo phone with "Cheetah Mobile Clean Master SDK".

"Too much trash. Please clean up!" .... yeh, on a phone that had just that moment been completely erased and factory reset! Fortunately this phone is very easy to root and doesn't void warranty either, unlike Samsung phones.

EDIT:

Here's a post of mine, about a Samsung S5 that had Smart Manager/Clean Master, that was causing frustration for its owner.
