clock too bright in the media dock?

I've used the app Night Clock the past two nights, and while it doesn't have nearly as many bells and whistles as the phone in dock mode does, it has a nice display, an alarm, and it's considerably dimmer than the phone in dock mode.

Just thought I'd toss in that as an idea. :)

this is hilarious how these threads morph into something else.....read the original post...

It doesn't work as a clock during the night. Even if you can stand the screen, the buttons are even brighter.

Just wondering what do you all have your brightness set too? Seems when i have it on automatic brightness when docked its not as bright as when i manually set the screen brightness

That's interesting. I turn off auto-dim as it's too bright even during the day. If it makes things dimmer at night than even the lowest setting sounds like a solution. Even better if Locale can auto-switch on auto-dim after a certain time...

I second this, the droid multimedia dock mode looks great in the photos online, but in practice is way too bright in the dim setting. It is also hard to read with the blue on blue color scheme.

I like the design still, but offer a darkest high contrast setting that is black on white or maybe option for red to preserve night vision (like the skymap). Seriously the google skymap is a good benchmark on how dark you really want it.

I would also like the ability to change to different alarm clock app on the bottom screen. I am designing one that is much easier to adjust.

Off-topic:
I hope that future version of the dock alarm have a "Nap" function - where I can quickly set the alarm to go off in, say, 30 minutes. My regular LCD alarm clock has this function, with settings going up in increments of 10 from 10 to 120 minutes. This makes it easy for me to quickly lie down for a 30 minutes nap, without having to set a regular alarm.

I know that other Android apps contain nap functions, but it would be great to have that built in to the standard alarm app.

I wish under the time it would show the next time the alarm is supposed to activate.

Hmmm....mine turn off a few seconds after putting it in the dock. Am I the only one?

Do you have the dock plugged in to the computer or the wall? When I plug it in to the computer it will turn off the screen, but not when plugged in to the wall.

FWIW, I've been using the native Power Control widget since day 1, to set the screen brightness to 0% for daily use. It was still too bright, especially in dim conditions, plus I was looking to save the battery.

Someone tipped me on the Quick Settings app/control window available in the Market (free). The brightness control alows you to get 10-15% dimmer than 0% from the Power Control widget. The screen is about the same brightness as the lock screen. I've used the Dock simulator and its dim function, but if you guys think that's still to bright, try the Quick Settings level "0" in dimmed/un-dimmed mode.

I wrote a small app called "DockLauncher" that launches any 3rd party app when the Droid is placed in the multimedia dock. I am using it with "Night Clock" and it works great. Currently it is available until 12/7/2009 as a free trial. Give it a try and let me know what you think :)

Are you talking about Bedside 3.0 (Night Clock)

Or Nightclock 0.9.4 (free)?

Both seem a bit too simple... for me... but it might definitely come in handy for others.

If it had a way of giving the weather too, I would jump all over it. Free or otherwise.

(Hint hint) :D

fantastic app...great job
i'm using it with digital clock.it is a bit more customizable and can be made a bit dimmer.

if someone finds a clock that doesn't light the bottom buttons please let us know.or nate...could your app possibly do this?

wow are you guys seriously finding all the little things to complain about...

it ain't that bright even when in the night mode on the dock...my mm dock sits right on my night stand next to my bed facing me the entire night...

maybe i'm not as light sensitive in my sleep as you guys are...but I am a morning person...

the "bedside" is a great app. it is customizable and you can silence your phone and allow only calls and or sms to give you audible notifications while in the dock...also allows the app to automatically open when docked so there is no need for the "docklauncher" with "bedside"...it is $1.49....well worth it

What I wish the dock, when set on the 'night' mode would do would be to first, turn off the soft key lights, and then to turn off the LCD, but not the touch screen - meaning that it would turn off, but you'd be able to touch anywhere on the screen to wake it up again... instead of having to find and touch the sleep button.

A little dimmer screen would be nice.
