Root Clockworkmod and Rom Manager

Thanks for the info. I am going to make another attempt this evening. Once I flash with Odin, will I still be able to get the OTA updates?

clockwork mod will probably block the ota for you as it fundamentally changes your system. i cant say that for sure by that seems to be the going thought. root alone however shouldnt.

that be said...literally within hours of the ota starting some talented individual (maybe jt) will most likely have a deodexed, de-binged, optimized version of the ota to download and flash from xda.

this may sound funny but thats actually safer than taking the ota  i say this as verizon has an awful track record of otas bricking your phone.

Was running rooted Droid, using easy root, rom manager, and cyanogen.
Just upgraded to the facinate. Easy root did not support fascinate so went through the walkthrough on rooting fascinate found in the forum here.

Problem: Can't reboot into clockwork. Fails on unsigned files.

Steps take: So far I've read through the whole forum and several others. Tried uninstall reinstall of rom manager. Can't find standalone clockwork mod in the market. Flashed cwm several times in rom manager. Cleared cache, anyways need help.

This is what you need the fail means its not installed: Clockworkmod installation how to for windows / *nix - xda-developers

Alright next question. Successful install of voodoo mod, reboot. Go into applications to uninstall some bloatware, and no option to uninstall anything. Bing, city id, none of them have uninstall option. Just clear cache. By design? or do I just need the next step? Much love guys

thats one way to go or you can flash a rom like jt's clean and it will basically remove all the bloat junk and clutter for you

Is it just me or has the root section exploded the last 3 days or so

Neat to see so many new people coming on board :D

Saps took your suggestion and installed jt mod, now every time I try to install an app it says I have no room. Using the task manager that is on the phone under the summary tab for program memory it says 0 of 0 mb. Tried a restore, same thing. Wiped cache, and did factory reset, nada. Short of restoring to stock and going through the process again, not sure what to do.

this is a voodoo issue. you will need to remove voodoo completely to get rid of the 0.0 storage issue that arises from reset without voodoo removal.

[How to] Completely Remove Voodoo Lagfix - xda-developers

this is the voodoo removal thread provided by adrynalyne. you can put his uninstaller on your sdcard and apply it. this works for most people (but it has failed for some)

if the uninstaller fails to work, you will have to nuke voodoo and your data with adb in recovery.

hope this helps (and it should) :)

Hi All,

I'm having a problem with my recovery menu. I had clockwork mod installed and working fine about a month ago. Yesterday, I tried to boot into recovery and I had some error messages and wouldn't let me into the menu. The messages are as follows:

E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(Invalid argument)

-- Install from package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

After this I try to 'apply sdcard:update zip' and I get the same message

-- Install from package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

at some point it seems you moved or renamed or deleted the update.zip that was on the root of ur sdcard that enabled cwr. you will need to put it back or put a new one there.

if you need it: update.zip

After downloading a kernel or rom, rom manager asks if you want to wipe the cache and data. What cache and data is this referring to?

Nitsuij17, I've tried that and I'm still getting the same result. I don't think I've moved the update.zip file anywhere.

Verizon tried to update my phone overnight "SCH-I500_DH12_to_DI01" and that's when I've noticed the problem. I don't know if it was happening before or after this got downloaded, however.

I've got a clockwork ? When I run CMR it boots into recovery, and it attempts to install the zip, but I get:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
E: installation aborted.

:(

oh google search where are you?

:D google search win!

Did u push clockwork recovery with odin yet? We can't straight flash it from rom manager. The link for clockwork install is up top in friscos sticky. It will create an update.zip file on the root of your sdcard. Never move this or rename it. Then after installing that go into rom manager and flash clockwork twice and then you should be good to go and can reboot into cwr

THANKS! unfortunately google beat ya to it! Thats a weird process to get CWR. wonder what is preventing just a straight flash from within rom manager?

Birdman was explaining I once and what I got put of it is that since we have a semi-locked bootloader when koush built recovery thus was the easiest way around it.

Voodoo5 seems to ditch stock recovery in its flash however.

Its sitting on my PC. I'm test driving a fascinate right now, so I haven't had a chance to load it. No oc sucks tho

I Was just reading the thread and there are a lot of bricked phones because of it. I think I'll wait as my x is my backup for when I bork this phone now

Yeah I saw that. P3 said its because the data partition needs to be wiped. Off topic but, I have been unable to get a quadrant score over 1000. What are you guys running that makes your phones so fast?

Voodoo. It fixes the I/O bottleneck by converting part (or all, I think, for Voodoo 5) of the filesystem to ext4.
