Root ClockworkMod Recover Vs. Amon Ra

Hopefully this is the best thread to ask this, but I just recently updated Amon RA recovery to 2.2.2 via ROM Manager. I am trying to make a nandroid backup and it now asks "What do you want to backup?". My options are:
1. Boot (selected by default)
2. System (selected by default)
3. Data (selected by default)
4. Cache (selected by default)
5. Recovery
6. Wimax
7. SD-Ext
8. .android-secure

I noted the ones that are currently selected. I seem to recall it being a good idea to select Wimax, but what about the others?

I just need a "standard" nandroid before I flash Myn's RLS5/radios.

The absolute minimum for a useful full backup are the default selections. You do not need to backup wimax every time, but you must have at least one backup that includes it. If you lose your wimax keys, you can restore that one backup. No need to include it in every other backup. Recovery seems like an odd thing to backup since you need recovery to restore (not sure I understand the point). You need to select SD-ext when you have partitioned your sdcard and use a2sd. If you don't, don't even bother selecting that. It will fail. .android_secure is froyo apps2sd directory. You should be fine with the defaults.

Awesome and quick response. Thanks for the help. Off I go to try RLS5!

What is your hardware version and are you coming from 3.2x or 3.70?

Just wondering cuz it wasnt quite working out for me so i bounced back to rls4 for now until i have time to play with it more.
My battery wasnt lasting at all

Hardware version doesn't matter. Did you update radios, etc.?

Well, I am going from RLS4, which is based on 3.30.651.3 if that is what you mean. I also have hardware version 002. I have my RLS4 nandroid now, but I understand I will need to downgrade my radios if I go back to it should RLS5 give me fits. Did you have to revert back to older radios? How did it go? Hopefully I don't need your help, but you never know!

I wiped data/dalvik/cache
Flashed rls 5
Flashed the combo radio updates.
Rebooted

Then flashed a couple mods.

It wasnt working too hot for me, so i...
Restored my backup of rls4
Flashed previous radio
Flashed previous pri.
Rebooted.

All is back to normal, and battery is awesome again. lol

Very well, then. I'm actually REALLY liking the setup I have with RLS4 and I am getting some wicked battery life. I really shouldn't be tinkering with anything else, but I get so damned curious about trying something new that I do it anyways. We will see tomorrow, I suppose!

When you try again, leave PRI at 1.77. That's been known to cause a few issues for some people. If that doesn't help, hit me up and I'll help you troubleshoot if you need.

Hello All!

I just noticed after updating CWM to 2.6.0.1 (and 3.0.0.5) that I was getting color fuzz/noise at the bottom of the screen after hitting <reboot> in Recovery mode. I've never had that issue til I updated CWM, unfortunately, I couldn't go back to 2.5.0.1 to see if it'd solve the problem so I updated to 3.0.0.5 and got the same thing. I switched over to RA 2.1.1 and it wasn't present anymore.......not sure if it's really much of an issue but just thought I'd check to see if anyone else has witnessed the same???

yeah I get the lines with clockwork too, everytime I reboot from it. I have also been having issues with wiping. I tried to install mikfroyo 4.3 but clockwork wouldn't get me a clean install. it would actually lock up on dalvik wipe (had to pull battery, twice).

I started having apps disappear. and clockwork would not flash over to ra or update.

I had to flash ra 2.2.1 through bootloader and all everything wiped good and no lines. clockwork now updates and I'm on RA 2.2.2

I thought maybe I was having isolated issues... but maybe not.

Did you wipe data or just cache/dalvik? You need to wipe all three, or something like what you described will happen. I'm surprised it booted up at all. Go back to recovery, wipe data, cache, and dalvik, then flash it again. See if that helps.

Using ClockworkMod Recovery v2.6.0.1

I'm a little puzzled here (sorry still way too much of a noob :( ). Booting into recovery, all I see is "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache partition" and nothing else about wiping anywhere (that I can find). So...what is meant by dalvik? Also, in the recovery mentioned above, I'm assuming that the option "wipe data/factory reset" would be the same as the wipe data mentioned above in your reply akazabam?

I might be able to get the answer to my questions by just picking one of the options in recovery, but I'm a little hesitant at this point of my learning curve. Thanks akazabam.

EDIT: I found Dalvik Cache in the advanced area of ClockworkMod Recovery, so all is well. :)

Anytime you flash anything at all it's best to do a backup first in whatever recovery you're using. I transfer all of my backups to my computer for safe keeping but I can see I'm going to need to make a log to keep track of what each backup is so I can figure them out down the road. The only ones I'll ever actually reflash though will be the last one I made before I changed roms...

You can screw the phone up from flashing the simplest things. Having a recent back can save you a lot of greif. They range from 300-700mb though so unless you have a huge card you'll need to keep them current on your sd card.

The latest rom manager has version 2.2.2 of RA in it now. Either make sure your RM is current or get it from XDA.

Glad you got it figured out :).

MK, as long as your string of stuff ends in those last 2 lines, you should be fine. There are threads somewhere else that give the exact text that you see before those two lines....and there are 2 or 3 "request...reply...reject" sequences. SO don't sweat that. Look around but I am thinking your 4g is fine.

thanks for the reply....i never see the last two lines that you mention. no problems until the latest wimax radio update. now it says its connecting, then validating, and then starts over...

Do NOT USE CLOCKWORK!!!!!! it does not backup your rsa keys and then you have to go get a new phone when they get deleted. I was lucky enough to get sprint to order me a new one for free because i unrooted before bringing it to them but other people might not get so lucky! only use amon ra!

What version of clockwork were you on? I understand that 2.6.0.1 and up backup your keys. I use Amon RA personally
