How easy is it to brick your phone when flashing the recovery?
I really don't want to screw my phone and parents over for a second time.. I won't get a new one..

The announcement probably won't be coming from me. As I said, I really don't have any experience in building recoveries. And everywhere I looked for instructions has you cloning the entire android git, which will take a solid 6 hours on my crappy internet connection.

All I can tell you is that one the 2 phones I have in my hands, I am able to build a recovery with a custom kernel and a custom ramdisk and it boots up. I already posted the commands I used to repack the ramdisk and insert it into the boot image. Using "abootimg -u ...-k ... ", it inserts the kernel in there just fine.
 
Does service/3g work? This is definately progress but I'm thinking this still needs to be tested more before released to everyone. I would let some of the others try it privately so you're sure it's going to work and you cant brick when following precise instructions.
 
well,looks like to me gp has figured out how to do it. now there is a need for a dev who will give it a try. one who's not to busy and finds interest in the device.
