Root ClockWorkMod

hmm. i think the reason its displaying the way it is,is because its for the venture and not the elite. not sure, but dont the recoveries have to be compiled for the device specifically from source? or are they an independent program that should generally run on any device? my best guess. maybe one compiled for the elite would display correctly. either way you've gotten it to boot. thats a leap ahead for elite development.

Nice work, giantpune.

I'm not sure how you're unpacking the IMGs, but does it lay bare the graphics.c file? There are a few graphics.c files you might want to try from other phones. The LG Optimus M+ and LG Revolution. I'll post them if you're interested. IIRC, the files are also available on github.

I have extracted the boot partition, extracted the ramdisk, repacked the ramdisk, and inserted it back into the boot partition. My MD5 for the partition is now different, but it has the same contents as original.

Think you could post these? I'm sure a few of us would have some fun doing the same repacking trial and error.

When I dumped my partitions, I started counting at 0, so my part_13.bin is the recovery partition extracted from the full nand dump.

Code:
j@media-pc:~/android/partitionInfo/v4_partitions$ mkdir workingDir && cd workingDir
j@media-pc:~/android/partitionInfo/v4_partitions/workingDir$ abootimg -x ../part_13.bin
writing boot image config in bootimg.cfg
extracting kernel in zImage
extracting ramdisk in initrd.img
j@media-pc:~/android/partitionInfo/v4_partitions/workingDir$ mkdir ramdisk && cd ramdisk
j@media-pc:~/android/partitionInfo/v4_partitions/workingDir/ramdisk$ gzip -dc ../initrd.img | cpio -i
5150 blocks
j@media-pc:~/android/partitionInfo/v4_partitions/workingDir/ramdisk$ find . | cpio -o -H newc | gzip > ../newramdisk.cpio.gz
5150 blocks
j@media-pc:~/android/partitionInfo/v4_partitions/workingDir/ramdisk$ cp ../../part_13.bin ../../part_13_repacked.bin
j@media-pc:~/android/partitionInfo/v4_partitions/workingDir/ramdisk$ abootimg -u ../../part_13_repacked.bin -r ../newramdisk.cpio.gz
reading ramdisk from ../newramdisk.cpio.gz
Writing Boot Image ../../part_13_repacked.bin
j@media-pc:~/android/partitionInfo/v4_partitions/workingDir/ramdisk$ md5sum ../../part_13.bin ../../part_13_repacked.bin

46679197efac855c9eb84f040278aefb ../../part_13_repacked.bin

They aren't fully ready and there is still no recovery to flash them with even if I did. I will try and get them finished this week.

Seems like things are looking up more and more for this device every day, perhaps there will be a light at the end of the tunnel for the Optimus Elite!

FWIW, giantpune, you might want to report your findings to Drew in the event that they can assist him in any way.

I know this is a phone and not a pc but android is Linux and when Installing linux on a pc without proper display driver you get the same 4 way split image kinda scrambled like that so I agree with Leslie Ann on this its in the display drivers

Awesome thanks, I'll mess around with it a bit and see if i find anything

I can confirm that both the boot and recovery partitions will start up fine using a custom-built kernel. My phone is running one built on my own computer from the LG source code. I got my hands on a brand-spankin-new phone. After rooting it, I built the kernel and inserted it into both partitions, flashed them to the phone, and I can boot into each one.

No "fastboot oem unlock" or anything like that is needed. Repack the boot image, flash it, and it works.

I don't think I have ever been as fond of a man as I am with giantpune. You're like a superhero. I say this with zero shame.

This is awesome. Giantpune, you're a genius. If i had a job, and was a bit older so I had a debit card, I would donate $50 to this. It was disappointing knowing that my first smartphone wasnt able to flash any roms, and you've given us some hope on this, giantpune. Thanks so much.

if its functional when gp is done slutyman, everyone will benefit. gp has always shared work with everyone. i dont think that will change. just sit back, relax and enjoy the updates. im personally enjoying reading the progress posts. as spock would say...

Nothin like a refreshing cigarette after reading clock work mod posts! the chicks? you didnt see that..

Not sure it's something that would need to be done with every phone. I'm sure everything could be made once and distributed. It's just a matter of time for all the kinks to be worked out and to get everything working.

Hey guys quick update: I emailed opensource-mc@lge.com here is the full emails so far:
My email to them:
Hello!
I am the current owner of the lg optimus elite and I have a huge issue with this phone. Now before I begin I understand this WILL void all warranties. If you are aware the lg optimus V was so successful because of the cheap price and the custom recovies and roms. That little phone was a powerhouse with custom roms.
I believe that if you allow us to use custom recoveries with the Elite, the sales will boost over time. There is evidence of this if you view the forums of the lg optimus elite on androidforums.com. This is more of a plea. HTC allows users to unlock the bootloader, while voiding the products warranty. Its a win-win on your part, you will make more profit, while voiding many peoples warranties so they cannot send them back, which would cost you money.
Thank you for your time,
James
There response:
Dear James

Thank you for your interest about our mobile phone.

“We received your request on LG Open Source Code Distribution site(Open Source Main).
This site is just for providing source codes of FOSS(Free and Open Source Software) we have used in our product.”

We already delivered your request to relevant department and we are still waiting for response from the department.
They are looking for a more efficient and safe method to unlock bootloader

p.s.
and stop with those updates. their a bit annoying. thank you. have a nice day. :D

that letter was a nice effort. wasnt making fun of or anything. just the part where they regretted inform you it would....take more time. o_ O lol really? why whats the hold up? lol seriously their holding on to that info and arent going to give it to anyone intentionally. as for flash image,i dont recall anyone trying it. i dont think it would be useful for the elite without some modification..if at all.
