Root CM 10.1 Nightlies Discussion

Hey Folks...pls. help. I'm on RC3. But video capture/playback and youtube FCs are a big pain. After reading other's views here, was considering going to RC5.
...All the experts, pls. chime in soon as I want to finish this in next 2 hours while I got the time. Thanks..

Also, just realized that the CM tribe has put out a STABLE release dated 6/24. Would it be more updated than RC5 or its just RC5 with more bugs resolved?? what shd. I use...again, pls. shout as soon as you can!!

Going from rc3 to rc5 or 10.1.0 can be dirty flashed so you shouldn't lose any app data or settings. Do a nandroid first just to be safe, then flash the ROM that you choose. As far as which version of yoinx's kernel I can't answer that... someone else will have to chime in on that one.

Follow what the post above me said.

After my phone almost melted on Quattrimus CM10.0(120+ here) I went to CM10.1.0 stable (dirty flashed as CM team states, you can go from one stable release to another without wiping data, no FC's) on yonix's v43 kernel and running v6 supercharger. Smooth, battery is decent, and no temps of 180+ on my CPU due to a better thermald in the kernel

Edit reason: added that I dirty flashed from CM10.0 to CM10.1.0 without issue

Anyone still getting the YouTube crash where only way to use phone again is a battery pull??

yeah. Mine was doing the white lines hard lock thing again. But wasn't sure if any mods where causing it.... sho didn't see any reason to report it done I don't user YouTube I want going to get rid of everything to test it

I was also considering doing YOINX's kernel - what I really need is good battery life and I dont need overclock if it impacts battery life. So..

1. Which kernel version and what setting shd. I use on my spectrum.
2. I also have quite a few apps that I'd like to save data of, while going from RC3 to RC5.
3. Also pls. confirm/modify the route I shd. be taking to do this is..

A. Take nandroid backup
B. Clean cache and dalvik
C. Flash RC5
D. Flash whatever kernel you folks recommend.
E. Restore only apps from nandroid (how to do this??)

All the experts, pls. chime in soon as I want to finish this in next 2 hours while I got the time. Thanks..

You'd have to try different versions of my kernel to see what gives better life really. The last couple versions may not be the best in life since I got an extended battery... life stopped being such a concern compared to performance.

They should all give more life thought in theory. You could also lick the frequencies down a bit to save some juice. You could also play with under voting more. I default to somewhat safe values. Different hardware though can handle different amounts.

What sh. I use to tweak settings and can u offer a sample of settings that shd. work in ur opinion- again, I only need battery life and really dont do much multi-app- playing. At best I have Maps and 2 other apps open (so 3 concurrently). And obviously I have only LG Spectrum :). thanks

I can report that Youtube works fine with stable 6/24 Cm10.1 - tested multiple times.
Also, camera works fine..tested...moviecam yet to test.

what really does V6 supercharger do...what settings ?

Why will this phone allow my car to use its audio for music?...they pair and the radio can make calls just fine but when i try to play music it only plays from the phone!

what setting shd. I use that you were talking about. And since I have your 43 kernel, where shd. I tweak them ?

Sorry, I don't usually write long replies from my phone... and haven't been on my computer much the last couple days.

I cover how to tweak settings in the thread for that kernel. It's a bit off topic in this thread. Use the apps kernel tweaker or trickstermod. Neither is made specifically for this phone so some options in each work fine, while others don't.

As far as battery life, just running it should boost your battery life some. The integrated mpdecision should also boost life some. You can tweak the settings for that in either of those apps. Personally, I just run the defaults that the kernel gives with the exception of governors. Those you'll have to play around with and see how they work for you. IF you're not too concerned with performance, the best things you can do for battery life is Cap the cpu max frequency to the lowest you can while not suffering too mucch lag. The higher the freq the cpu is running at the more juice it's using. The other thing is to leave the screen off as much as possible and/or turn the brightness down significantly. Most roms have the option through the system menus to adjust the birghtness levels for auto-adjustments. (usually right where you turn auto-brightness on).

Hopefully that helps some.

I know this is a bit late for a response, but I checked on this myself last night and this morning and found that I was having the video playback issue as well. Formatting cache and dalvik fixed it for me.

I just noticed an interesting glitch on the 10.1.0 stable and am wondering if anyone else is getting it. When I use the camera from the lock screen (right panel) and the preview shows up, all I get is a small one or two pixel width line across the top of the screen. I'd only ever seen this effect before while playing carcassone and I don't remember having the issue with the beta 3. If anyone else is having the same issue, please let me know and I'll submit the bug report. If I'm alone, I'll have to figure out what I have installed that is causing the issue.

That happens to me also the first time I try it after a reboot. But after I unlock my phone then relock it seems to be okay. Let me know if you have a different experience.

Ok, I was able to reproduce what you said and it is the same issue I'm getting in Carcassone then. Time to start digging and produce a bug report. Games issues are one thing, but this is in their stock app.

Hey Neph, what lock screen security type are you using? I've been using pattern lock, and I just switched to the slide lock which seems to be better... not that I would consider that a solution since my phone needs to be a little more secure than that lol. I'm gonna use that for the day and see if that does it or not.

I tried building this into a rom earlier this week to fix it but it didn't work, tho I honestly am not sure what I'm doing yet with building roms so I might have done it wrong - try it if you want and see if you have better luck.

Reeseboy, I don't believe it's tied to the lock screen itself as I first found the bug when opening up one of the games I play. It's taking importance now, because I found the same glitch in a part of the stock ROM which means the CM Team has an interest in trying to fix it rather then just saying it's a poorly coded game. As for your question, 3x3 pattern. Just enough to deter your average snooping person. Anything more is pointless unless you turn off ADB, remove recovery, and encrypt your phone and SD card because all those are easier points of access if your phone is stolen.

Sync the repo, copy the cherry pick line, build as usual.

That patch is a month old though...May not apply cleanly anymore.

After looking at that patch, I don't believe it's going to help what you are looking at. They are in a spot where the camera is not even starting up. Ours starts, but the qdoverlay is acting up causing only a 3 line preview to be shown. At this point, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try it out, but I have a feeling it's all going to come down to the video fixes that RMCC pushed 2 months back.
