Root CM 10.2 Nightlies Discussion

OK, that makes sense. I'm still confused by the way you have storage mounting though.

/devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host /storage/sdcard vfat defaults

Why /storage/sdcard instead of just /sdcard? Is this to make things work with KK?

It's to make things work with 10.2 vold. And that actually is not correct. It should be /storage/sdcard0.

Hasn't it always mounted like that? /sdcard is just a link to /storage/sdcard0. Or /storage/sdcard1. This is how some devices flip external and internal storage btw.

Not unless I'm reading this wrong. This line is from the ICS fstab.

/sdcard vfat /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 /dev/block/mmcblk1As

TDM mentioned, it's not a big change unless you use ADB a lot. I could not for the life of me get "adb shell mount sdcard" to work, but I could manually mount it from inside the CWM recovery gui.

Might wanna look at some info for vold in 10.2... Might just need to add an alias before the line. Since that's what you're calling by mount sdcard in that command... "mount the entry called sdcard"

I don't know if anyone's really looked into this.... But here's a brief description of their 4.3 changes: Device Specific Configuration | Android Developers

It looks like you can't assign a label anymore in the fstab file anymore. However, it does seem like would be able to do it in the storage_list.xml as
storageDescription: string resource that describes this mount.
I would think that this field would allow you to use "sdcard" in order to make adb's 'abd mount sdcard' work again.

So I'm having a really bad experience with 11/19. I installed it this morning and then forgot about my phone for most of the day. It has been plugged in to a USB port that will keep it fully charged with minimal use since I updated. I checked it about 2:00 p.m. CST and noticed that I was at 1% battery and the top of the phone was really hot. I went back to 11/18 and 11/15 and both are reacting the same way.

When I start the phone up, I get several messages that E-mail, Exchange, bluetooth have stopped working. I have been dirty flashing these updates so I am going to wipe data/factory reset and try again.

I've been pretty sloppy with updating the nightlies but I wanted to let someone know there might be an issue with 11/19 (at least that's when it started for me).

Only slight problem for me on 11/19 CM10.2 build. It did have 2 reboots in the beginning but perfect now. Using it as daily driver without issues. Make sure you are using correct Gapps. I've been dirty flashing for last 10 builds without issues.

Looks like it is a wifi drain issue. I cleared battery stats and then looked at them just now (after about 5 minutes from wipe data and reflash 11/15). Wifi battery drain was 72%.

EDIT: Wifi is off and we are charging again. Problem solved...?

Since build 11/19 - So far my battery has been okay with WiFi always on. I have an extended battery . no tweaks . I have also had two random reboots without doing anything.

Kitkat is supposed to work on older phones like this with half a 1gb of ram which is awesome. Looking forward to that ;-)

Um. Don't we have a gb of ram?

I always had my 2 cents about how much ram is truly used for performance. I rather not talk about it :o

Its amazing that Google will allow devices like ours to function on KitKat 4.4. Its like giving a energy boost to a 75 year old man that used to run a track meet of 4x400 relay back in his time. Amazing :D

Samsung fascinate has kk already(512mb ram and 1ghz hummingbird. And shipped with 2.1).
I'm honestly surprised we don't yet.

The ZV9 update was rumored last month for the spectrum to have JellyBean, but know Im thinking it should of been KitKat. Lg is rolling out Kitkat to the new LG Flex I think

Um... what?

TDM put up a test build of KitKat in his PACE thread.

True. But I was meaning a functional build. When I flashed that it constantly told me my sd was safe to remove and wouldn't mount it. I think I had data issues too. Can't remember. I switched to v9

Yeah, pretty sure he got that worked out. It was an issue in the new vold system or something. You should take a look over there again.

Sorry to be a pain but I haven't rooted or used any roms since GB. Is it safe to root, use Bootloader Pwnage, and flash CM after taking the OTA V9 update? Pwnage adds CWM right?
What is the postrecovery script, and where do I get it and how do I use it?
Should I download CM from CyanogenMod Downloads? Which one is the best to use right now?

One last thing, how/what steps should I do all this in?

Thanks for all your help. I hear you have a great rom here.

Whatever you do, don't install the current recovery from rommanager. Its busted right now. Use the old 6.0.1.1 version.

Update to V9 using the LG update tool. Use the Pwnage tool to root/unlock the boot loader, which also installs the correct CWM automatically. Stay on stock or flash which ever ROM you wish to do and you'll be running the newest radio files if you flashed V9 first.

So I'm must have done something to my phone because I am having one of the strangest bugs I have ever experienced with CM nightlies (and no one else has mentioned it yet). I am on 11/20 and every time I plug my phone in to charge (USB, wall charger, car charger), my phone locks up and reboots.

While it's nice to have a fresh boot every couple of hours, I think I'm about to lose my mind. Anyone else having this issue?

EDIT: Also, I've noticed that once it reboots and is still plugged in, I do not get an option for USB drive access or USB tether.

EDIT: So that was weird. My reboot issue is an unrelated nightly issue. I did not have an option chosen for USB Computer Connection (Media device (MTP), Camera (PTP) or Mass Storage). With Mass Storage chosen, I am back to normal. I believe I originally de-selected MTP and forgot to select something different. Even after I updated with different nightlies or did a full wipe, the setting was not reset. Just an FYI.

So far I had random reboots in general but when I charge my phone It never locks up or reboots when charging. I noticed there were two 11/20 nightlies, I downloaded the latest one. Ill check back if anything.

Every time I mention this it's ignored but the only real problem with 10.2 and the rest of the 4.3 roms is the camera. Most apps that use the camera don't work aside from the stock camera app and luckily snapchat. So Instagram, Vine, any camera effect app, Bank of America photo deposit, ect all don't work. And I haven't tried any video chat apps but I assume they don't work either.

I'm not trying to be someone who complains because I definitely appreciate what everyone who's still working on this phone is doing, but it just seems to be a very overlooked problem. I don't know if it means anything but none of these problems existed in 4.2 (although the other problems it did have outweigh this one).

Thanks and again I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining.

I doubt it's being over looked. It's likely a driver issue which may take a while to work out, or something with how the system is hooking the driver.

I'm not sure it's a driver issue so much as a memory bandwidth issue. Case in point, you can run the front camera in focal and see a preview, but the back camera, at a higher resolution, just locks everything up. My last class for the semester is tomorrow, so I'm hoping to dig into this again. I got fed up last time chasing down memory issues and getting no where.
