Root CM 7 gingerbread rom

am i the only person that thinks people shouldn't get the thunderbolt if they're just gonna run cm7 on it? i feel guilty just for using adw ex on mine. other wise, why not just get a nexus :/

cm7 is sense less, right? I got a TB mostly for sense, so it would have to be out of this world for me to ditch sense. GINGERBREAD might do it? :)

correct. but really what you lose by flashing cm7 is the overall polish that you get with sense. sense to me is just classy. cm7 is more bare bones but with so many added features that many can no longer live without.

Funny. I bought my T-Bolt precisely so I could flash CM 7 on it, knowing that this would be a device Cyanogenmod would soon support. The only thing I like about Sense are the clock widgets, but much prefer running ADW EX launcher. In fact, as soon as I root and flash CM7, there will not be one hint of Sense on my T- Bolt. I was running CM7 on my Dinc and miss it so much I've often thought about using it instead of my T- Bolt until I can flash CM7.

The Thunderbolt has a 32GB removable memory (sd card), a 4.3" screen (only other 4.3" on vzw is the DX) is a good option for Verizon customers because the Nexus isn't available on Big Red, and doesn't have an encrypted bootloader like most of vzw's high-end Androids. The LTE radio is great if you live in an area with LTE coverage:p.
The only Vanilla Androids were (are) the Nexus phones and the OG Droid. A lot of people would love to be able to run CM7 on their Droid X/2s, but can't because of the encrypted bootloader. Even on those phones, most people who rooted them (myself included) couldn't wait to get rid of motoblur. The Thunderbolt is the first high-end Android on vzw since the Incredible with an unlockable bootloader.
FWIW, I don't use Sense on mine either, I switch back and forth between Launcher Pro and ADW EX.

Well technically there are more vanilla android phones than that, but I get what you are saying.

I look forward to having Gingerbread, but I'd rather run... well... anything other than Cyanogen. I just hope Virtuous comes over to ThunderBolt. Clean, simple, and full of Sense.

apparently you are not the only sense fan who has a similar opinion to this. however i think its a pretty stupid statement. the nexus one and S are good phones, but im not gonna switch networks to get them. also,im not a fan of samsung,so i wouldnt pick a nexus S even if it was on my network. the TB is the only 4.3" screen, front camera,4g phone on verizons network right now.

lots of folks like sense, and thats fine. but there are alot of us who are indifferent,or downright hate sense and theres nothing wrong with that either.

i picked the TB because of the hardware... with the ability to root and change things, its silly to pick a phone based on the software it runs. i love to mod my phone and will never knowingly purchase one with an encrypted bootloader.

well said sir. i got the TB as well knowing that Sense's days were gonna be numbered on it.i ran adw launcer(la la la la no sense here :D) until i could root my phone and now im running the virus senseless rom. ahhh much better! tho the wite message and contacts backgrounds still look like sense. oh well, its still better!

to contrast some of the other comments,i am a huge CM fan and personally cant wait for CM7 nightlys to start rollin for the TB. if they dont happen soon i may have to switch back to my dinc for a couple days to get my fix :p

?? You might want to explain that statement. Otherwise it just sounds like you have some kind of personal vendetta against it and that is not helpful to those that are looking for guidance.

Perhaps, but it was the "anything but.." that really didn't shed light in a CM7 thread. If you don't like CM7 then why are you posting here? Your OP was just announcing your excitement about it forthcoming. I'm sorry, but I just don't get that post.

Agree but some people just like saying they hate or dislike something to try and get people to not use it maybe?

His post doesn't help ANYBODY though. If he doesn't want people to use it, then he should include reasons to why he dislikes it instead of just trashing up the thread with useless posts. It's like going into StarBucks, announcing you think this place sucks then leaving. Accomplishes nothing.

On topic - I was waiting for CM7 to release on my OG Droid, but just ended up flashing Bugless Beast. I need my CM fiiixxxx.

The RCs on the OG Droid are pretty awesome. In fact when I gave my Droid to my wife I made sure that it wiped and flashed with the newest CM7 RC, she loves it and hasn't had any problems at all.

AMEN BROTHA!!! As soon as CM7 is ready sense is sooooooo gone!

Just curious, what about sense do you guys hate? I'm new to Droid from Crackberry so Sense is my only experience.

I just rooted today and havent decided on a new ROM, but for now Sense is all I know. What dont you like about it?

For me its more of a familiarity than a hatred for Sense. I had a G1, then the OG droid both running Cyanogen. I grew to love the little added features plus never having to wait for manufacturer/carrier updates.

CM has always been fast and reliable. It is clean and simple...i guess I am somewhat of a minimalist. It has a lot of powerful features without all the fluff. I know just where to find everything and how to make my phone look and run how I want. With Sense...i am lost...things just don't look or feel how I am used to and sometimes it takes me 5 minutes just to figure out how to get my phone on vibrate.

Sense seems like a lot of un needed fluff that is supposed to make things easier and look more polished, but just gets in my way. I think HTC did a great job with Sense for the average consumer but I actually prefer the look of Vanilla Android especially Gingerbread.

If you know nothing else, it's not that bad and a good introduction to android. If you want more control and speed out of your phone...you can't beat CM.

I check the forums daily praying for a RC of CM7.

Its not that i dont like sense i just prefer vanilla android over it...sense is sweet dont get me wrong it blows out blur and whatever samsung puts on their phones...but to ME theres nothing like ASOP aka Vanilla android...and i bought my TB because of the hardware also ive had plenty of sense phones but always ditch it for ASOP....

i couldnt have said it better than this. i got used to android in a pure, unmolested form on an original droid, and i have run CM roms on the 2 other htc phones ive had :D

on my incredible i try sense roms but never end up staying with one for more than a day or so,with the exception of "incredibly re-engineered". despite being sense,i loved it because it was so snappy and so responsive. everynow and then id go back and run it for a couple days. its developer(chingy) is making roms for the thunderbolt so make sure you give it a try if youre looking for a rom until cm7 comes out :D
