Root CM6 or CM7? Which one to choose?

I am currently running CM6, and having no issues whatsoever. I am, however, wondering what the advantages to CM7 are, and do they outweigh the instabilities that it has. Stability is a BIG concern for me, but I would like some feedback from those that have been using it for a bit.
 
Instability??? I've not noticed any instability ;) def nothing compared to 2.1 lol

The things I noticed, lag while typing a text when another text is being received (seen this on stock 2.1, CM6, n CM7, willing to bet if I installed icarus would see it on it too). Video camera doesnt work, but camera does, but freezes at times (locking the screen fixes it). Barcode scanners doesnt work due to camera issues.

Thats about all I've noticed and I been running it a month or longer. My particular phone handles the 710oc setting well too but this isnt so for all ascends.

Now dont get me wrong CM6 is great, I just couldnt get past the look n feel of cm7 to stay on cm6.

I did find a theme n morphs that will work on CM6 that I might install it n do tho lmao. But I doubt I stay on it tho.

Flashed it to try, sold on CM7. Ty God.....that sounded weird.
 
I recently loaded CM7 and I love it. So much smoother than 2.1 stock from metroPCS. but my video camera won't work at all. I did the mms fix successfully. But the split SMS function won't work. Also there are a lot of moments of force closing with a lot of things. I do fix permissions. I try the airplane mode thing. I think the video camera not working was the last straw. Images camera works but cannot take video. Is there something else I have to do? otherwise I am going to try CM6 tonight (with CWM 2 since i had 3 which is why i couldnt load the supposed more stable CM6 initially). I'll definitely note any major differences if I do this tonight but in case I don't, whats different with CM6 and 7 for huawei ascend for metro users. or cricket if its about functionality and not service.why 7 over 6 aside from being prettier? seems like the functionality is the same as android 2.2.

cm6 has ALWAYS worked with cwm3....

Hmm really? i should have been able to flash from my metroPCS stock android 2.1 to CM6 froyo with my CWM3? I tried that first. I don't know what was going wrong. I did follow the steps but what happened was it loaded but it would never boot up. It kept going back into recovery. So I'd successfully install CM6 (or maybe I didn't, could never verify) but no matter what I would be stuck at recovery. Is this a common or problem with my CM6 download? or if that happened, do you suggest I download CWM2 instead and try to install CM6 again? Dont worry I wont hold what you tell me against you if anything goes wrong.

Also, my last two postings could be viewed as negative so I want to clarify now how thankful I am that you and company managed to make my phone a super awesome experience. The following is all a thanks, no questions involved so no worries... okay.. here:
This is my very first smartphone ever. I am very good with computers and am a graphic/web designer (not developer lol but tend to cross over a little). But the huawei asend through metro would freeze sooo much and it was a bad experience from stock. Ever since rooting, my life got better. and then when I loaded CM7, I was amazed with it... I love it. My brother had a better cell initially but not anymore thanks to you all. Plus the huawei has a beautiful sized screen compared to other things. So just having CM7 or CM6, I love it. I love learning more about it all the time. Eventual If i ever get even half of where your at,, I'll try to develop some things. Thank you for your advice and everything. Thank you very much for everyone involved with CM6 and CM7. This is awesome. I am still a poor-justFinallyFinishedCollegeNowWorkingInField-student/graduate so I can't even donate a thing but hopefully for now, this thanks will show my gratitude.

Hi and welcome to the forum...but you can use cwm 2xxxx or 3xxxx to load cm6/cm7, the file you downloaded may have got corrupted some how, but best thing to do is delete the file you downloaded and re download again...but check this thread out, its a very easy to use guide...:D http://androidforums.com/ascend-all-things-root/320265-ultimate-ascend-customization-guide.html

hah awesome thank you :) if my CWM3 rom manager is currently working. should I skip the step to install CWM when i reboot my phone do I?

yes it should work...only icarus required the 2xxxx to install...but to flash the metro off you will need 2xxxxx cwm. Good Luck!!!:D
 
Your right cwm3 did load CM6 now.

Okay cool, is that the current best standard fix now for metroPCS mms? I read somewhere editing APN was a solution. I did the GB metroff fix when i had CM7 but it never fully worked. The fix was successful and mms worked, but split sms didn't. which i think it was supposed to. for metropcs, now running cm6 (cwm 3 but if i do have to for the best result fix, i will redo with cwm2). Editing APN or metroff?

Glad you got it install...but metro off will work, shouldnt have to change the apn if you flash that...make sure you flash the froyo mms, no the gb...

hah thanks. its not too difficult. Everyone makes it super easy. I never imagined posting in these forums would get such immediate response. lol. but i am very fluent with computers and such. Just this is my very first smartphone so I'm learning all this now. But thank you for your help. I definitely appreciate it.
But did you say I would need CWM2 for metrOff to work on CM6? or does it not really matter at this point. I still have CWM3. But hah thanks yeah I noticed most people start yelling and complaining when something doesn't work and they didn't read the instructions or load the right one. Like loading GB metroff when running 2.2 lol.. I'm in 2.2 so i'll make sure its the froyo. thank you

oh okay well that solves that. I didn't even check it yet. Still customizing my settings and having fun with it. i did use this cm6: "cm6-ascend-metropcs-04212011.zip". Thanks a lot for letting me know. I'll check it out right now.

Your right. I can send mms picture messages. But what about long texts. If i type a text that is over 145 or 160 characters? I thought it did multipage split SMS. But it just has a send error if I type it more than one text worth. Am I missing the settings to change this in? or should that automatically work and split long texts?

you using stock messaging or a app...a good app i use is go sms pro, but normally when im running out of space instead of it splitting i just send it and start a new one.
