Review: CM6 RC3

This is a brief review as there is not a substantial difference between this and RC2. For a full review, read this and the reviews at the RC2 thread here.

Installation & Set-up
For RC3, I simply updated the RC2 I was previously on. It went exactly as it should and I was up and running with RC3 in minutes.

Performance
I felt that the performance of this rom was nearly on par with Sapphire. I love Sapphire so that is saying a lot. It now has an option to lock home in memory which does decrease screen redraws to nearly nonexistent for me. Compcache is also now included in the CM Settings. I do feel the performance is slightly better in this build in comparison to RC2, unfortunately the battery life does take a significant drop. Battery life in RC2 was not good to begin with. It seems to have gotten even worst in RC3. I am averaging less than 10 hours per charge. If I do not charge during the day, I won

okay switched to Chevy LV .8GHz around 9 hours ago.. used over an hour of talk and only dropped 20% from when I installed the Kernel.

I will see how it does over the next couple of days.. I think the ULV was too low for me

Anyone else having problems with the LED notification? I've tweaked it every which way but it rarely flashes for Gmail. It just sits there with a solid light, no flashing.

What's compcache?

Compcache is essentially virtual compressed RAM. A better definition is below, found in Slayher's kernel thread at the CM Forums written by BoddhiC21. Link here.

"Love the compcache!

For those not familiar - what is it: compcache is a bit of code that creates a virtual swap drive in your RAM. The data that goes into it is compressed, this occurs very quickly. So, it essentially gives you the equivalent of virtual extra RAM to keep programs in memory.

Why use it: I am finding that with compcache enabled I can run a number of large memory usage programs withiout slowdown. Furthermore, with compcache I am not having the issue with the slow redraw/ relaunch of the ADW launcher that I have without it. This is an issue that many people have reported. Between compcache and the interactive governor, my phone is running as smooth and well as I could hope for."

Keep messing with the settings it's in there somehow to get it to flash correctly! I originally had this issue and played with it for a while to actually get it working.

Anyways my worst issue with this is the amount of battery it consumes through phone calls. 15% and I have been on there 9min, 15 seconds.. Ouch.

I am still trying it but it seems the Chevy .8ghz LV kernel is helping me with battery life..

It does not seem to drop as much as it did.. still checking though

Have you had heavy usage on phone calls? Seems to be the major issue.

installed the kernel at 11am yesterday with 70% on battery

at 7pm last night it had dropped to 50% battery

I did use it for an hour non-stop with my Bluetooth and the battery did not plumment like the three 5 min calls prior to the Kernel change..

after 3 calls it dropped from 100 to 80%

I also did *22899 which I did not do after installing the ROM. did that around the time i swapped kernels

not sure I needed to, but it won't hurt

Currently running and LOVING CM6 RC3....only one thing I'm noticing is an issue...

I found Flash 10.1 in Market...installed....won't work. I've tried to go to some sites that use Flash, but I get that Lego piece with the ? in the middle. Is there a workaround or is this a limitation to this ROM?

Follow this link to Droid Life and install this version of flash. It is the full 10.1 version (no more beta). It was just posted yesterday (8/23/10).

I just installed this mod and the customizations options made my head hurt, in a good way.
I had a question regarding the power control widget. I see options 2g/3g and also for mobile data.

Doesn't going from 3g to 2g disable mobile data? if so, isn't that a bit redundant? if it is i'll just do the toggle off of mobile data.

Wow, been a while since I ran a CM rom because they didnt agree well with my phone but I figured I'd give this a spin and damn, me likey. I esp like the keep launcher in memory option, no screen re-draws at all. I know its simple but the power widget customization for me is a great feature. I am currently running it with Chevy's 1gig ULV kernel and the battery life I have gotten out of this is amazing.

I went ahead and threw this theme on by Benny:

I really like the darker themes and this theme looks great. :D
