Root CM7 has gotten so slow

I've had CM7 on my phone for a couple months now. Initially it worked great. Now my phone takes forever to load apps, open the app tray, and even go through menus. Pulling the battery didn't help either. I know it's a pretty nonspecific problem, but any ideas what could be causing it?

I experienced similar issues, and the best things I've found to do so far is
1) make sure the CPU governor is set to interactive. All the other ones seemed to be very slow for me.
2) install minfreemanager in order to set the Android systems default memory management settings. (i changed content provider to 64 mb and empty app to 128 mb). This will help keep more memory free.
3) make sure you're on the latest cm7 and make sure you've done a full factory reset so data from last ROM doesn't carry over.
4) don't install to many apps. Simple as that.
That should take care of your problem. :-)

Try clearing the cache. Uninstall any apps you have that seems to force close and don't work.

Forget about memory managers or task killers. Android will just reload the apps again as the OS is designed to use all memory on your phone.

Awesome tip ebnight! I know I have garbage left on the SD card after various ROMs and apps, I deleted some but wasn't sure about the rest. Good to know there's an app to clean up the mess!

i had the same rom on for months and found similar issues

what i found out was that even though i had 80 plus apps all installed to internal memory (save for big games), and also that even though i had the speed kernel with interactive governor on, the problem was actually that i had way too many widgets and apps on the homescreens.

it made the launcher use more ram, which closed other background apps, which made the entire phone sluggish.

i cleared up my homescreens, just used the basic apps on one page and the others in a folder and everything sped up like a fresh install. more ram available to hold background apps in so switching between them was quicker.

i didnt think it was a big deal but it really made a difference for me.
