Root CM7 Nightlies

Can you update these nightlies through ROM Manager without wiping if youre coming from a previous nightly Cyanogen? Also is there a changelog per nightly??

I'm wondering basically the same think. I'd really rather not re-build my home screens every day. But I'm afraid to restore my system data either if it's going to conflict. I guess that's not likely since I'd be going from the 2.3 to 2.3. Anyway, it'd be good to not have to wipe everything.

Also, a changelog would be awesome, if only to know what has been changed so that I can try it out and report back.

i haven't wiped and done a clean install since build 40 from crackflashers so needless to say you shouldn't have to but if you run into any problems with the install then go ahead and clean install and that should take care of most all of the problems

if you flash CM7 it is like starting over once and if you use TB you SHOULD NOT restore any data from apps but expicley NOT from the 2.2 system the data conflicts with one another and you will be in a world of force closes and random reboots

I'm very familiar with the world of FCs lol

I'm referring to going from #2 to #4 (didn't have a chance to this morning so will probably wait for tonight's build actually). Anyway, any reason I would need to wipe before going from nightly to nightly? Will my homescreens and data still be around or will I need to back that up between each update?

I know these seem like ignorant questions, but I've always wiped everything before installing a new Rom.

no man you do not need to wipe between nightly builds i do every weakened or so just to keep things fresh but i havent wiped in a while... yes all your home screens and apps and settings will still be after the new nightly unless you flashed the batt mods or the new font ... those two things will go away and you will just need to re flash those things

Ha, I did that last night with TB. I had a ton of force closes on everything. I had to nandroid back to my previous rom. I'll try to flash the latest CM7 nightly again tonight :D.

I don't have any problems restoring apps + APP data but you are spot on about being mindful of 2.2 carryover apps. Bad deal and I had to delete several from my Titanium stockpile when making the switch to 2.3. Even going the "Restore all missing apps + data" route, there were still a ton of them from 2.2. I narrowed it down to market apps only when flashing and I've done great on every version of GB. I think this is a mistake a lot of people have made. Even stuff that seems like you don't want to get rid of..."People" for example. In GB, it's called "Contacts" instead so apps we once thought of as required no longer are required and in fact are detrimental to proper function.

Bottom line...carry over only market apps. Everything else is already in the Rom waiting for you.

Tip: Once you get it all hashed out, use the batch function for "Un-install backed up user apps" for what you left behind. You can always get them back later by nand restoring to a 2.2 setup and doing a new Titanium backup to pull them all back in.

HELP! I had CM7 #4 running perfectly (more or less) and then I ran unrevoked forever to get S-OFF which seemed to work fine as I now see S-OFF on the HBOOT screen.

When I tried to boot back into the CM7 Rom I just got stuck in a bootloop...

skateboard->Circle Arrow Spins->Circle Arrow Stops->Screen Blanks (repeat)

I've tried everything, nandroid restore, factory reset and reflashing #0, #2, #4 with gapps and still the bootloop every time. I've had to go back to the modified stock froyo backup just to get the phone to boot again.

Any ideas? Missing gingerbread already - damn!

Man, that's an odd one. Always a red flag when Nandroid = fail. When you tried flashing GB from scratch did you wipe data/cache/dalvik?

the only thing i can think of is mount your sd card on your computer
unroot your phone using : How To: Unroot the HTC Incredible | TheUnlockr
once back to 2.2 do a factory restore
then run unrevoked 3 (now it will root and s-off in one step)
then reflash CM7

S/n : i dont think unrevoked is set up to root anything gingerbread that is where i think you might have hit the problem man

5 is up and running smooth guys from what i can see on xda this build is just small tweaks and nothing major has changed

I went ahead and installed #5 without wipeing the data and cashe. Glad to see it went well and all my apps and home screens are all as they were. I figure that going from nightly to nigtly is similar to getting an OTA. No reason to have to backup/restore everything.

Anyway, I will probably wipe/restore before the final version install.

Thanks so much - that was helpful advice! Here's what I did...

I restored to my modified stock froyo via an old nandroid backup.
I flashed unrevoked-son.zip to get S-ON
I did a factory reset to get back to stock froyo
I flashed unrevoked-forever.zip to get S-OFF
I flashed #4 + gapps and no bootloop! :)

Still on Gridlock's #45 waiting for vid playback to function. Sounds like it might be a reality in the next build. Here's hoping. Been awhile since I flashed a CM nightly.

I figured. I might even try to flash some other roms in the meantime. I guess the real purpose of my post was to let others know that they needn't bother wiping/restoring between nightlies. I had asked that question, but I wasn't certain that my question was understood, as I didn't get an answer.

Hopefully that will help other noobs like me.

While you dont need to wipe between nightlies, I do wipe every few and if you have problems, it is suggested you try a clean install.
