Root CM7 Noob Advice Please

Tonight I made the switch from Synergy RC2 to CM-7.1. I've been reading about nightlies but I don't totally understand the concept. Can I just flash 'em like a rom (with amon_ra2.3)? Is it recommended that I stay up to date?

Also, can someone please suggest other first moves to make with CM7? I basically want to make the most of my phone with this rom.

Is there anything that I could do with Synergy that I can't do with CM7?

nightlies are just that they make little tweeks here and there. to flash those first do a full wipe and flash the nightly then from there after you can wipe dalvik cache and cache only and flash the rom.

you may need to do the gps fix xda-developers - View Single Post - [INFO/FAQ] Unofficial Cyanogen Mod Nightly (6/6 - I'm taking my ball and going home!). other then that try the tiamat kernel. my best combo was cm7/ tiamat sbc 4.0.6. that combo easily gave me 18-35 hours with moderate to heavy usage. also in the cm settings there is a way to over and underclock and use the smartass governor.
