Root [CM7] Trouble with USB connection and syncing

First off, you guys are great. I just found this forum tonight and already successfully rooted and installed CM7. :]

Having said that, like with most things in my life, I'm having some problems. The first being that I can't sync my gmail account (where I assume all my contacts were saved). The second is that my USB connection to my PC is no longer showing up, not even in the notifications like it usually would.

Thank you!

As far as the version, I installed the one listed in this tutorial:

http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-...overy-install-custom-rom-cyanogenmod-7-a.html

So, CM-7.1.0-LG-MS690-10182011, I think.

Tutorial is old.
Download ROM Manager from market, flash recovery with rom manager with LG LW690 C. Do it a second time just in case.
Download either BACKside (MMS works), or MIUI (if you don't care for MMS). BobZ CM7 (not sure about MMS) has issues at the moment, freezing, slow, apps force close ......

And in CWM recovery (the recovery rom manager uses) the camera button is the select button, not the menu button.

Rom Manager was already installed, just now running the recovery x2.

MMS is big for me so it would be needed. Though the tutorial is old, there does seem to be a fix for CM7. Would switching to BACKside solve my syncing and USB issues?

That happened to me to. The USB data connection must have gotten blown out. I bought some microUSB cables from some 3rd party, and I think that's what caused it for me.

No matter what ROM I use, USB data doesn't work for me anymore after using that 3rd part USB cable.

Sorry I'm still so new to this. Without simple step-by-steps I'm really not understanding too much lol

EDIT: Your phone MUST be on WIFI!

1. Open rom manager
2. Flash clockworkmod recovery
3. Choose LG LW690
4. do steps 2 and 3 again

CWM is now installed, to use it/verify it:
1. Turn off phone
2. press volume down+home key+power button
3. Volume up is for up, volume down for down, CAMERA button to select

Now it boots into CWM recovery, there are two methods of installing ROMs
A)
1. Go into ROM Manager app (booted into the regular phone)
2. Install ROM from SD card
3. Browse to where you put the ROM on your SD card and select it
4. If you have never backed up before, select backup pre existing ROM, otherwise skip to step 5
5. Choose wipe data and cache
6. Choose wipe dalvik cache
7. Press ok

B)
1. Follow how I said to use/verify CWM from above
2. If you haven't backed up, go to backup and backup...(should be easy to figure out) when done go back to main menu
3. Do the factory reset option
4. Select yes
5. Go to mounts
5. Format /system, /boot
6. Go to main menu, advanced>wipe dalvik cache
7. Go to main menu, flash zip or install zip, something like that, browse to where the rom is located in SD card, press camera button, press yes.
8. Reboot

DONT FORGET TO DOWNLOAD GAPPS IF THE ROM's THREAD SAYS TO HAVE IT.

To install gapps:
1. Boot into recovery
2. Follow only step B)7 from the how to install ROM above

Hope this helps :D

I did have an issue with using my USB cable that came with the phones charger awhile ago when running phone on stock settings. Eventually the issue somehow resolved itself. I've been using cheap third party cables for my car, laptop, and pc with no issues at all up until CM7 installed.

Whats strange is that Windows seems to detect it (makes a noise), but doesn't attempt to install drivers or anything, nor does my phones seem to acknowledge its connected to a computer.

At step 2) when you say to select the ROM, are you referring to CM7?

Don't use a USB HUB (splitter). And use OEM cables. Cheap cables, third party cables, and expensive third party cables are all bad as well as cables made for other phones.

Wifi appeared to be one of the features not working post CM7. I did it twice. I should mention that after ALL the steps, that's the message I recieved

You MUST be on wifi when doing this stuff, you flashed a corrupt recovery due to a faulty download thanks to MetroPCS with slow speeds........
Try pulling the battery, unplug it if its plugged to something, put battery in and turn on normally, tell me if you can still get into your phone.

Ah, shouldn't of taken the two prompts that said it was successful for their word :P

Negative on a normal boot, can only boot into CWM.

oh ok :D
you didn't flash the ROM, that's why try again, pay attention to see if it says installed successfully or something like that...

This thread should be stickied under the title "all the mistakes and troubles you can encounter." ;)

After choosing the ROM and selecting yes it gets as far as "Opening update package" in the prompt. It then fails, the text states; "assert failed..." and ends reading "Installation aborted".

does it say status 7?

You may just have to redownload it.

Download it with your PC, in the phone in recovery, go to Mounts>mount USB and have the phone connected to the PC. It should let you copy BACKside to your microsd card, after that, reboot recvoery in the advanced menu.
Then now you should install the ROM you downloaded (again)

Edit: Mounts, not advanced

Windows wont pick up the storage device, even in CDW still (thankfully my girlfriend and her Galaxy were here to act as a microSD reader), but aside from that, everything seems to be working now. Can't thank you enough for all your help and patience!
