Root Cog v2.3b6 just flashed saturday

im uploading a quick video now, it may help. Its hard to read alot of text but i think youll probably get it, i threw it together real fast.

Is that the correct USB driver that I should be attempting to Paste the Cognition update into?

And I'm not sure how to copy it, because directly from my download list there is no copy option. What I did before was put the WinRar file in, but that obviously didn't work.
 
No, you shouldn't have to reroot.

I would start from scratch again. I've read a few non-kosher things that have happened/you've done already.

Go into your phone, delete any update.zip and Cognition zip files you may have. Go back in ROM Manager, and "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". Check your phone, you should now have an update.zip. Redownload Cognition from Designgear's website. This should download as a zip file, NOT rar. Move the Cognition zip to your phone, and then you can follow from step 3 on the How-to you posted above.

Edit: Once you download the Cognition zip from designgear's website, DO NOT try and extract it or anything like that. Plug your phone into your computer, move the Cognition zip to the phone.

Can you please go into detail about how to do this, I'm pretty sure I've been doing it wrong. I've been using the file that I posted above as a USB driver.

you need to find where your browser downloads the files to. mine downloads them to a file called downloads, then you transfer it from there directly to your phone, dont put it in any subfolder just drag and drop it to the file that shows up.

Probably the easiest step, but I think I may be doing it wrong. More detail please.

OK!! Making progress.

That helped me, found my downloads folder, and copy+pasted the update into the USB driver folder. Now what should I do, it's still not showing up in the list on ROM Manager.

when you hook up your phone to your computer can you see the files and stuff that are on your phone? if so you dont need those drivers, they are already installed.

then all you need to do is find where your computer stored cognition.zip and drag and drop it onto your phone. the usb drivers only let your computer see your phone

I did this all the way up until he selected the ROM from the recovery screen, then saw that my Cognition update wasn't on the list...

THIS is my problem...

you know what its probably alot easier to download the cognition.zip directly to your phone and not transfer it from a computer onto your phone.

the usb drivers allow your computer to see your phone, if you have a 32 bit pc then those are the correct drivers for you. if you have a 62 bit pc then those are the wrong drivers. if you have a mac i dont think you need drivers but i dont remember. you install those on your computer, then your computer can see your phone and you can manage the files.

but i recommend just downloading cognition straight to your phone, that should make it alot easier
 
Downloading it on my phone as we speak, can you please explain the process to me after I have it downloaded?
 
oh man this was much easier. ok once the file is downloaded, stay in the screen it showed when it was downloading, simply click the file and itll give you an option to open it with rom manager, do that and it gives you the option to clear data and backup existing rom. if you want to backup your phone exactly as it is now incase something happens and you want it back click backup, and always click the clear data and cache. press ok and youre done. give it a few minutes to install and the first boot will take several minutes

Last question, how easy is it to revert back to how I had it before I even used Z4Root?

I know there's a button on the app "unroot"

What else would I have to do?


Real last question: any other must have apps after I've been rooted and have Cognition? Or anything you think I should do?

there is a program called odin3, you install it on your computer and hook your phone up and it takes your phone back to how it was the day you got it. if you didnt click backup on the list that popped up or didnt make one using clockwork recovery then that is the easiest way to get back to stock

there arent any apps i use after cognition that i didnt use before. i watch alot of flash video online so thats what i use most, but it comes with the rom. there are some apps that require 2.2 but i dont use any of them, atleast i dont think i do
 
Yeah, I made two backups with ROM and one backup with Titanium.

Question: Can I use Titanium or something to install all my apps and stuff that I had before?

What's the quickest way to setup my phone with all the stuff I had before?

ok once your phone gets back up, the first thing youre going to want to do is install titanium backup again. youll have to enter your google account again. after you get it set up install titanium backup, run it, press the menu button and there will be an option called batch. next to one of the blue buttons it says "restore missing apps + all system data" is the one i usually do. click that and go through all the apps and youre going to uncheck almost everything except for the apps you installed from the market. uncheck everything like camera, phone anything like that. pretty much all the apps in red you will uncheck, most of the green ones also(youll find out what im talking about when you get to it).

if you install some of these like phone, they will cause force closes on your phone dialer as its a 2.1 app and youre now on 2.2. anything that has 2.1 in it you will want to not install. its kinda hard to explain but you dont want to get it wrong and get force closes. so pretty much just install 3rd party apps, on things like the stock email you can restore the data to it and the data will all go back. anything that you dont know what it is, like com.____.__ you wont want to reinstall either
