Root Cognition to other ROMS

I running Cognition 2.3b8 right now. And I'm wondering what would be the easiest way for me to flash another ROM (i.e. AXURA 2.2). Also, what are some other roms that rank high on the list. Sorry if this question was asked in another thread, but I couldn't find it. Thanks!

Flash back to stock first. Then flash your new rom like normal.

You need to flash back to stock before you go to another ROM. People who don't are the ones who end up with problems.

So let's say hypothetically someone forgot to make a copy of their stock rom. Where could they find a copy of it?

Over on xda there is an odin 1 click by designgears that will take you back to stock.

This is simply out of curiosity, but what is the reason for having to go back to the stock rom before flashing a different rom?

It prevents a lot of potential problems with the new rom. It also gets rid of any lag fixes, etc.

I routinely flash from one rom to another without going back to stock. Make sure you disable any lag fixes you have before flashing. Typically I flash from one version of the same rom to a newer one. If I am going from...lets say Perception to Axura i will go back to stock. Just my $0.02.

Just downloaded that so I can go back to stock when I am ready, decided to take the plunge and root and install 2.2 today, but I would like to go back to stock and go with the real 2.2 when/if it is ever released.

I went with a congnition rom via Rom manager. I should be able to use odin 1 click to go back to stock 2.1 Samsung/ATT captivate correct?

Yes

Awesome. Kinda new to all this. Didn't even think I was going to/would be able to root, looked crazy complicated lol.

Just wanna make sure I can make it look like it never happened when/if official 2.2 ever comes out.

So I just ran into an issue. My battery is getting drained kinda quick now. It's draining about 10% every ~1hr. Any one know how to fix this?

edit. this is me not using any heavy apps. just browsing a little bit maybe. no real apps running in the background either.

Have you flashed a new rom, or are you still on the same one as before? What rom are you on? Did you flash with 100% battery? have you recalibrated your battery?

I flashed from stock to Cognition. I did recalibrate the battery, but didn't seem to make a difference. I can't remember if I flashed with 100% or not (I'm almost sure I did).

Which cog are your running? You may have a bad flash, it may be the rom...

If it was me, I would try letting the battery run out, then charge it completely with the phone off. Then if I was still having battery issues, I would prob either reflash or find a new rom.

I've used multiple versions of cog and never had that problem.

I didn't see anything in the 2.3b8 thread showing terrible battery life. You may want to reflash if the battery is that bad.

Maybe a bit off topic, but if I were to flash another rom that didn't come with a lag fix built in like cog, would it be safe for me to apply lag fix through the OCLF app? Also would be safe for to disable voodoo lag fix on the cognition rom and apply the OCLF?

i am not aware of any roms without lag fixes, even still i dont know why would you want oclf over voodoo, and i dont think it is even possible

I flashed Axura 2.4 last week using ROM manager and had problems cause I didn't erase system memory & data. Had to flash back to Cognition 2.3b6, then flashed Axura with the wipe. Then reinstalled Titanium backup from the Market and was back where I left off.

I think I was under the misconception that OCLF was better than voodoo.

I don't think OCLF is held in very high regard among devs. I don't know the details about it, but I do know OCLF produces very high quadrant scores. Maybe thats why you thought it was better than voodoo?

That's actually the exact reason why I thought OCLF was better than voodoo (no joke).

It has to do with how OCLF does its "lagfix". All "lagfixes" are dirty hacks, some dirtier than others. OCLF's method is one of the dirtiest, in order to be able to be applied to a phone with the stock kernel.

It's a fragile hack that does its "magic" in a way that many (including myself) consider unstable and unsafe. However, many users prefer to throw caution to the wind for the sake of higher scores in an artificial (and inaccurate) benchmark and flame anyone who brings facts to the table... so to each their own I suppose. :)

Sorry, but what do you mean by "dirty hacks"?
