Help com.android.settings constantly force-closing?

Thank you! I do have Odin on my computer. any idea when it will be up again?

Will this flash delete everything off my phone like a factory reset? Or will it act like just an upgrade where it keeps everything on my phone?

Which file do I want? the top link or the bottom "kernel" link?

I dont know why people keep saying a factory reset will reset the settings and that will work. It wont if the problem in the phone is with a file that either makes the phone not respond properly or keep forceing it to close com files.

I have a problem with my phone after the update where i get the com.settings file forced closed everytime any app on the phone tries to access it, including the setting app itself. Now this was bearable as the phone was set exactly how i wanted it and i could use quick menus to switch on and off wifi, data roam, silent etc.
So i was gonna wait for the ICS update and use kies to update - the last update was OTA.

But.......

I couldn't wait - (well my data roam turned off and wouldnt turn back on).
So after reading up and getting all the factory reset advice i thought right ill do it - backed up the important stuff moved stuff to pc and did the reset.
Wow all setting reset, phone looks like it did when i bought it - click settings - force close. WTF. hit settings again, force close! Mutha-*/^$%.
Now im stuck with all the factory settings on the phone - including no wifi settings (so no access to router) - stock appearence including sounds, still no data roam - just the bare shell with no way of going into the settings to alter anything.
Now this is where the problem is - you download odin and the original stock firmware and try to flash but it dont work. so you come to the forums and people yell turn on debuggin mode.
Well after the last bit of advice you just factory reset the phone and switched that mofo off - or which everway it is. So how if you cant for whatever reason get into the settings on your phone how do you do this to get the phone to be able to be flashed by odin?
I have read people get the unsuccessful error. I just get a crash off odin which resets my PC.

Anyone have any suggestions - is there not a file that i can just copy replace in the android system that is a new settings.com file??

As your issue is somewhat different to FirebirdStud's, I've given it its own topic to avoid confusion.

Ok thanks???? i think lol

I am going to bump this if thats ok as i still dont have an answer - maybe i should just take the phone back and let then palm me off with a i9100g that ive been reading about - oh the vibrate dont work either!

Ok thanks???? i think lol

His was related to the Bluetooth radio causing a reboot loop, and appears to have been fixed by the reset.

If I'm reading your problem correctly, you want to use Odin to reflash the firmware?

Before starting, ensure Kies (if installed) is not running. Also ensure that your battery has plenty of reserve power; a failure there could result in a bricked handset.

1. Power off
2. Hold HOME + VOL_DOWN + POWER and keep all three pressed until you see a warning disclaimer. Accept that to enter Download Mode.
3. Open Odin
4. Connect handset to PC with USB cable. The COM: box in Odin should turn yellow and indicate a virtual port number.
5. In the "PDA" section on the rhs of Odin, browse to the firmware .tar file and select it. The path will now show in the selection box.
6. Select "Start" and the firmware should flash to the handset, which will reboot automatically afterwards. You can then disconnect the USB cable.

Thanks, did all that but didnt work - i think kies may be a bigger problem than i thought with odin - i removed it from task man and startup and everything - made sure it wasnt running but odin just kept restarting my computer after checksum. Thought it might be because i couldn't get into settings on the phone so i couldn't turn on debuggin mode and that was the problem - seems tho that after installing odin and JUST the SG2 drivers on a laptop it flashed properly.

Thanks again for the help
