Coming from a BB?

I am coming from a STORM. I actually like it for the most part, especially since the 5.0 upgrade. But I am gonna be all over the Droid on 11/6.

What I think I will miss (unless android offers something similar) is the separate sound profiles on the BB.

I sometimes use my phone as a text pager for work at night. I have a "night pager" profile where everything else just vibrates, but the text alert is a loud pager sound, and I have other "normal" sound profiles for the day and such. It is really really easy on the BB to setup and change between these sound profiles.

Never having used Android, I'm not sure if something like this functionality is available natively, or via some app add-on.

Anyone know?

this should work for you..
Locale - Android Market

I dont have a android yet. as I was underwhelmed by the g1s hardware.. this is be my 1st droid.

Definately well done on the BB but the Droid one up's that feature. Not only can you customize your sound profiles, you can set those profiles to change based on your location. Say your in the house and you like a loud ring with vibrate and led notification on to get your attention. When you get into your car and drive away your profile automatically switches to your custom car profile. Maybe the ringer is lower w/ no vibrate or annoying led while your driving at night. You arrive at work, and your work profile switches off the ringer completely, no vibrate, and led is on. All done automatically.

Pretty cool if you ask me. As a current BB Storm user, I did like the Surepress feel on the screen compared to the Droid. The Droid did give significant feedback when I toyed with it. I also love my BB messenger. Although the UI was fairly basic the menu options were always pretty intuitive based on where your were.

But it's time for a change for me.... I will be online at 12:30 on Nov 6th to order this puppy. I just hope I get it delivered on Saturday.

Thanks! That does sound impressive. I assume that with these profiles I can MANUALLY change them at will also, correct?

Since I will be in the same location most of the time when I have a need to switch profiles, there isn't a different location or specific time frame for me dictating when I normally need to switch profile ..

With the app. Most of the advanced profile settings are found in apps and not native. But that is the nice thing about Android - you can customize with apps.

I'm coming from a Pearl, and am really looking forward to the huge increase in screen real estate.

So I guess I'll miss my small screen the least, along w/the limited number and types of apps available for BBs.

What I thought I was going to miss most was easy access to my exchange email, but the Moto Droid's inclusion of exchange support looks like I won't miss that at all, and actually it appears I'll have better Exchange integration w/the Droid than I have w/my BB on BIS.

What I will miss is my keyboard...I LOVE the suretype keyboard on the Pearl, and doubt I will ever find any keyboard I like as much as it on the Droid or any other non-BB device.

But I'll live with that... :)

I am also comming from a Storm. and to tell you the truth. I wont miss anything about it. i have been threw 3 of them since day 1. and the 5.0 did make it way better but just not what i expected.I even had a 3gs 16 gig i-phone for 28 day's and turned that in cause there network sucks dropped alot of calls and the i-phone ness wore off quicker then i thought it would. And you couldnt get mms till like a month or two ago wth is up with that. So bring on the droid im ready.

I put up with my Storm for almost a year. This last OS update pushed me over the edge. What a pile of crap.

Can't wait to get my hands on a Droid!

I'm coming from a Tour. Two things I'll miss the most...keyboard and BBM.

ditto.. myself and like 15 other guys have a bbm group for our little vw group and we just bullshit all day with each other. just makes it a lot easier to talk to everybody and get things done but whatevs

So I just realized a feature on my BB that I will miss A LOT if I can't do it on the Droid...something simple like the Today+ view that I have now.

The home screen of my Pearl shows me three cagetories - 1) SMS/MMS, 2) Email, and 3)Calendar w/three most recent entries under each, and then a row of app icons at the bottom for quick access. Gives me a one-glance view of what's going on.

I'm assuming it'll be easy to get that kind of a home-screen view w/the Droid, but don't know exactly how it would be done. Anyone?

BBM is my main thing. I use it often (wife, work, friends) but it's nothing that I can't text around.

Other than that... maybe the battery life. I haven't really seen a long detailed "life after X testing" type set of reviews on the Droid so not sure on how it handles, but on my 8330 even after I spend 1/2 the night sending BBM messages to my wife I still come home from a 12hr shift with 70-80% battery life.

Either way... I'm still making the plunge. Potential over stalemate.

I realized this morning that I will greatly miss Berryweather. The push pin GPS location on the radar map is invaluable when I'm traveling for regattas. The location based weather alarms are awesome as well. This is probably my favorite and most taken for granted application on the Storm!

I came from a BB Storm then to WinMo and now getting a Droid. The thing I miss most about my BB is I could snap a picture and right from the camera app upload it to Facebook. With Winmo, I have to close out the camera app and go to the facebook app, select the album and upload. I certainly hope Android has something similar to the BB.

I have been using the same Blackberry for over 2 years now, so the thing I will will miss most is how fast I can use it. But I know in a month, I will be flying with my Droid as well.

My Blackberry Tour has been freezing up like crazy for the past couple weeks. Friday can't come soon enough.

Coming over from the Storm 1

I'll miss the email reliability.

I won't miss the poor web browsing experience and the once-a-day battery pulls. This is a pain when you have an Otterbox. Quick Pull Lite doesn't work on v5.0.0.328.

I fell sorry for you guys that used the BB Storm. I played with them whenever I go to the Verizon store and I can't stand it. Having to click the screen to select anything is a pain and felt like it decreased the touch screen accuracy.

I'm still stuck with the BB Curve at work, it's a POS, only thing is useful for is Email, and it's very slow. Forget browsing the web with it. It freezes occasionally, and it takes 5 minutes to turn on. Too bad, for now I'm still stuck with the Curve. However, I'm switching my personal HTC Wizzard to the Droid.

Yet another Storm1 user here that may jump to the Droid. I'll miss the countless hours of loading leaked and hybrid OS's trying to get the Storm to work like they hyped it too. No wait... I WON'T miss that, but I do like BBM.

But one thing that scares me about the Droid is the keyboard...I haven't read a good review on it yet...in fact horrible is common word used to describe the Droid keyboard. If so, I may wait for the HTC Predator.

I've been a loyal BB user for over 5 years and the thing I'll miss most about it is the keyboard because I'm soooo used to it. And BBM obviously.

I will miss nothing else and can't wait until I get the Droid on Friday evening :D

Love my "Today" theme on my curve and I hope I can have the same theme on the droid.

Played with the droid for two hours today and couldn't figure out if I could set the front wallpaper to have something similar.

The app is called Locale. I haven't check it out yet but I have heard about it. I would love to be able to tag my home and have the phone auto connect to my wireless network when I arrive at my home.
