Completely new, need advice about rooting

Sweet success. Just flashed cm6. Now with cm6 there's 3 add on's for google apps. Do i flash those zips also?

Also, earlier in the post someone pointed me towards a cm6 kernel, where my options are these:

Any idea which one i choose, or how to install it? (I feel like a 3rd grader hahaha)

ONLY FLASH MDPI, you have tiny gapps and the other. Only flash one

Boot into recovery and flash the mdpi gapps zip

Ok so out of "gapps-mdpi-20100926-signed" "gapps-mdpi-tiny-20100926-signed" and "gapps-hdpi-20100926-signed" i should do the first one??

Any ideas about the kernel?

Yes, do the first one

You flash the kernel just like any thing else but wait until you set your phone up with your google account before flashing the uncapped kernel

Look at "setting up CM6" thread it may help

rebooted after flashing cm6 and the google addon, and it's running a loop with the cyanogen screen and the spinning thing. Help? haha

I never wiped anything after rooting, could that be my problem? I made a nandroid after flashing cm6 and the gapps, so i could go back to that, wipe, or re flash cm6. Suggestions?

EDIT: Rebooted to recovery, wiped data and reflashed both, and it works!!!!

Glad you got it figured out:) Have fun!!!:D

Well done Flashbang009 through the learning curve, let us know how you like it now and your experiences, all the good and the not so good, LOL enjoy

Thanks everyone. I love the ability to change practically everything, and i can tell a difference in speed already. I'm still a little confused on which of those two kernels to use, or both, so if someone could clear that up for me that would be great.

That, and before i flashed and wiped, i used appsaver to put the apps on my sd cards. After flashing cm6 and gapps, i redownloaded appsaver but it won't find any apps on the sd. I put the sd in my computer... and they're there.. Suggestions?

I've had a few freezes after startup, within 2 minutes of rebooting, but other than that It's going fine. Still don't know which kernel to install, advice would be great.

Also, i noticed that under my contacts google seems to have combined a "jacob" and a "jake" into one contact and i can't get it to separate them (without remaking one). No big deal, just don't get why it did that.

I would flash the uncapped kernel #5, found here [Kernel] BrainFuct Kernel - UncappedKernel [2.6.29.6][09/28/2010] - xda-developers

There are 2 kernels, capped at 691 and uncapped. I would recommend the uncapped.

Nandroid
Boot into recovery and wipe Davlik cache and cache
Flash the uncapped zip
Reboot phone

For recovery i'm using Darchstar's recovery, So my wipe options are Wipe Data/Factory Reset, and Wipe Dalvik-cache. Should i be doing both of those or just the second?

Ok that's what i did. Well i flashed the kernel, and it worked fine. Until i started to use the camera. On the second picture i took, the camera froze, phone locked so i had to reboot. Now i get stuck on the htc screen. I guess I'm going to flash the nandroid and then the kernel again?

EDIT: tried to load a nandroid restore, but now i get an error that says "run 'nandroid-mobile.shrestore' via adb". Then plugged in charger, restore worked, but still gets stuck on htc screen.

Edit: now trying to wipe dalvik, reflash cm6 and boot up.

Ok now i'm starting to worry.

I fixed the nandroid problem by plugging the phone in. I get a successful recovery for nandroid, but when i reboot, it gets stuck on the htc screen.

I've tried wiping, flashing cm6, and rebooting. Get stuck on htc screen.... help???

Well after flashing cm6 about 4 times with no luck, i wiped and installed cm6, gapps, AND the kernel. Installing the kernel was was did it. Now it works fine. Any reason for this?
