Help Computer not recognizing my 2.2 Hero when it is connected.

Hello, I just rooted my phone and am running AOSP. Everything is going great with the root, however I can't get my PC to recognize my phone as a removable disk so that way I can remove pictures from it and whatnot.

Prior to the root, there was a menu in settings which allowed the user to select how the phone should be mounted to the computer when connected via USB, for instance it would show the options for "Charge only" "Mount as a Removable Disk" etc, etc.

I'm basically just looking for this menu in the new 2.2 OS so that way I can mount it to the computer and transfer data to and from the phone. I'm sure this is a really easy question and I'm sorry that I haven't figured this out on my own but I'm honestly stuck right now.

On a separate note. Is there anyway to prevent the stock messaging application from showing that there is a text? I use handcent for all of my texting, and whenever I get a text, both the stock messenger and handcent have an icon in the status bar, and it's always a pain have to go back and clear the stock icon after having a text. I know it sounds kind of silly, but I use the flashing led light on the phone to let me know when I get texts sometimes, and when I don't clear the message from the stock messenger notification, the led still flashes, even though I already read the text in handcent.

Thanks for all of the help, I really appreciate it.

Look in the pull-down Notifications bar. On my AOSP-based ROM a notification appears when connected via USB giving the option of mounting as a removable drive.

Yup, open the app and in Menu/Settings uncheck Notifications.
