Root Concerns

I am new to android and the rooting process, I have a couple of concerns. How likely am I to brick the phone? I have read many of the articles about rooting and have watched a bunch of videos on doing so. Also once i select the new ROM I want how do i go about uploading and running it on the phone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Next step would be to read up on how to install ROMs

You can d/l the ROM from your PC, mount your phone and then place it on your SD card or d/l the ROM from your phone. D/L ROM Manager, install ClockworkMod Recovery from within RM.
Boot into CWM>Backup and restore>Backup.
Wipe data>wipe cache partition>wipe dalvik cache (under advanced)
Install Zip from SD Card>chose zip from sd card

The process is so streamlined now it is extremely UNLIKELY that you will brick your phone as long as you can follow simple instructions. And I mean simple instructions like "press power button and then press this button".
