Root Confirming what I need my phone to have to send it back to VZW

Hello,

I was very happily running a rooted .595 GB on my DX when I woke up this morning to a very strange problem. Everything worked on my phone except for my ability to hear the other caller via either earpiece or speakerphone. The earpiece worked to listen to google voice messages, and the speaker also worked when dialing, phone ringing, etc...just not during phone calls! I tried several times to SBF back to .340 but got stuck in a boot loop for a few hours. Finally got out of that only to get to stock and find out...I still had the problem. Long story short, VZW tech thought it was "the network" which sounded wrong to me but we determined it was in fact, the hardware of my DX. So they're sending me another one.

What I want to be sure of is exactly what my phone should look like when I return it to VZW in terms of software. I used the top download on this page: https://sites.google.com/site/1kdsdroidx/home which is "Android 2.2.1 System Version 2.3.340 Full (VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01)". Am I correct that this is what I need on my phone to send it back to VZW? I don't want to mess this up!!

Thanks in advance for any help/info!

yup

i do believe an SBF fixes this issue, it was talked about in another topic, but considering there are tons of topics on here and im at work, i cannot take the time to locate it, but aparently an SBF fixes this issue... strange, must be something in our leaked release that only happens to certain phones, my hasnt experience it yet because i dont receive alot of calls, only txts. but let us know if flashing back worked for you. and you can try doing the leaked gb again and see if the problem comes back to you

I know, that's the weird part. An SBF back to .340 was supposed to fix it but didn't in my case. Believe me, I put enough effort and time into getting the SBF working!

Anyway, I'm *supposed* to have a new phone here today but so far VZW failed on that as well. :( Not a happy morning.

they are sending it via ups im sure, so that means anytime after 11am you should receive it. so basically starting now you should be expecting it

Nope, turns out they completely didn't ship it out at all - an who knows why. I finally lost it and started crying on the phone, not intentionally just "yet another thing" and I have physical reasons I can't be without a phone. Some who *really* knew what they were doing sorted it all out, refunded the overnight shipping charge and sent it overnight w/Saturday delivery to fix it for me. So, hopefully *tomorrow* I'll have a working phone!

if this TRULY is the case...in the future i might warn against rooting and modding your phone...

it is legal...but completely voids your warranty...if Moto/VZW were to find out you were rooted they could refuse to replace the phone, or even provide you with support for the device...

if your phone really is such a necessity i wouldn't want you to end up having to fork over retail price to replace a phone because you bricked it and they refused to replace it because the warranty was void...

Unfortunately, it is true. I really wish it weren't. Problem is, I've enjoyed "updating" my phone to the latest versions and such as a diversion from a lot of my medical appointments and struggles. Not that anyone wants a discussion about disabilities on the site, but there is a sense in which it's kept my mind occupied and given me some enjoyment through some really difficult times.

But your point is valid about having a working device.

I've never bricked my phone (forunately) and only run a couple of alternate ROMs, Apex and the Gingerbread leak. I literally went to sleep with it working and woke up with it not...and there was at least one other person who had the same issue happen the same night. So, I don't understand that at all. I also don't understand why what worked for fixing his phone hasn't for mine. But that's life, I guess.

At this point, one of the main things I use root for is true backups with TiBU, and getting a later version of Android. I don't remove apps, or mess around with stuff like that. I try to stick with fairly tried and true mods.

Anyway, I'll give your suggestion a lot of thought before doing much with my replacement phone...though I really wanted my TiBU backup to work on it so I didn't have to do all that work. If the OTA gingerbread ends up working out and I can do a simple root for TiBU, I might do that and leave it there.

Thanks for your input.

yeah, im not saying you SHOULDN'T mod...and 99% of problems we could help you get out of...im just looking out for you because of what you said...its just a slippery slope and i wouldn't want you to get stuck and out of a phone...

Also, i work with people that suffer from disabilities (physical, psychological, and intellectual) on a daily basis (im a Special Education Teacher), so i do understand where you're coming from with keping your mind off things...
