Root Confused.

Hey all, I was just wondering something. I was searching the internet (hoping for hints on Froyo. Sigh.) and came upon a site that just went step by step through the process of finding updates for new users. So I followed along just for kicks and found a small problem. The guide states to go to settings -> about phone -> System Updates -> Check For Updates. My problem with this is I have no such menus after About Phone. Nothing even remotely close to System Updates. It's all informational stuff (battery and whatnot).

Am I just being dumb?

Should be the first one in the list when you open About phone. It is on my Desire.

What phone have you?

ive seen some versions of desire with this missing
it will either be a dev desire or one from a country that locks down wireless updates with the carrier

I have the Desire. Sorry, I should have clarified that. And it's probably my carrier being lame, I have U.S. Cellular.

Also worth noting that I have root access, but have not flashed a ROM. Probably unimportant but I figured I would include it.

Then you really shouldn't be looking to apply an ota update. It could really screw things up for a rooted phone.

Best off sticking to custom roms or pre-rooted stock ones.

I believe USCC supply their updates via their website (not OTA) for some odd reason.

Im not sure if its the equivelant of an RUU or not. If it is it will wipe your phone and should be fine.

If it's some sort of update rather than full rom, since you are rooted, you'll just mess it up
