Help Connecting via bluetooth to Mac

Right, I must be going mad because I just can't get this to work.

My Nexus and Macbook are paired, and I can send files from my Mac to my Nexus. But whenever I try to send a file from my Nexus to my Mac, it shows the two being briefly connected, but the phone always gives a "file not sent - connection error" response.

Anyone got any ideas?
 
Can't get the Bluetooth to connect properly to my Windows 7 laptop either :(
 
So, in the hopes that someone with some knowledge might peruse this thread, I'll keep it alive by asking what your bluetooth problem is. Same as mine?
 
I'm a Mac user and I have noticed the same thing. I think it's another 2.1 issue as all the other phones i've had I could transfer from phone>mac.
 
I actually have the opposite to you. I can send files via Bluetooth to my Mac with no problems, but can't send from my Mac to my Nexus
 
wana swap? i have absolutely no desire to transfer anything from my Mac :D

I've read other bluetooth problems that people have fixed by changing the order they pair, or which device they pair from etc. I have tried initiating the pairing from both my Mac and my phone, neither seem to make a difference.

What I have noticed is that when sending the file from the phone, the little dot on the Mac bluetooth preferences window that indicates connectivity briefly turns green. So something's happening. Just not anything useful.

My problem is that while I can get the bloody things to pair (laptop and the Nexus), I can't get them to connect?!?

Just use the hard wire at the moment.....

Me too (Windows 7 64 bit), except the hard wire isn't working either. I'm having to rely on wifi. :mad:

You shouldn't need to download the SDK (plus drivers come with SDK, so not necessary for separate download).

A lot of people (myself included) ignored the line in the manual after connecting via USB for the first time, and forgot to pull the notification bar down and select to mount the phone. Don't know if that might be the problem.

But back to Bluetooth!!! Anyone found a way to fix it?

I want to know if there should be a way to maintain a continuous connection between phone and Mac (or Windows computer, I don't suppose it matters). Mine only seems to connect when a request is sent (say, from the Mac to the phone) and then disconnects immediately after the file transfer is complete.

Obviously with things like Bluetooth headsets the connection is maintained for long periods of time. I'm just wondering if this should at least be possible with a phone and a laptop. Because if it is, I'm missing that option entirely.

True true. Actually I forgot that the drivers should be included in the HTC Sync software as well. But I totally agree the phone should have a method to install the drivers automatically when plugged in. Only thing I missed about having a WM phone.

I think I'm missing something. I didn't have to install anything to have my phone work as external storage on my laptop. Just plug and play (or plug and transfer, as the case may be).

Ah, nevermind me then lol. I came from a HTC Hero so I already had the software installed and just assumed this was needed.
 
It's doing my ruddy head in. I keep reading the manual and seeing what should happen after you pair (as in, it connects!!) but that just never happens. Need to find someone else with a bluetooth enabled.. anything... to see if the problem is specifically with my Mac or all Bluetooth devices.

It seems strange that there are only a few of us reporting this problem though, the issue on the Android issue board only has 4 or so stars. Maybe we've got dodgy units.

Had a brainwave last night that made me think I might try it without wi-fi enabled (which is always enabled whilst I'm in my house) in case they were interfering with each other, but no joy.
 
OOOOOOH!! People with Macs, bow down to your new master! I've totally solved this problem.

So. On your Mac, go to the Bluetooth preferences panel after pairing your Nexus to the Mac.

Select the Nexus in the left-hand menu, then use the little cog to pull down a list of options. Select "Edit serial ports..."

Click the little '+' icon, and in the Port Settings section, select OBEX Object Push. Protocol should be automatically set to RS-232. Click "apply" (and probably "require pairing" to be nice n secure) et voila!!

You should now be able to, say, go into your gallery and send a file from your N1.

VERY nice, thanks!....now can you fix the N1 pairing with the Kia Soul? :-)
 
I know convenient it is to be able to use BlueTooth File Sync, however, I like using Dropbox to keep things in sync with my phone and other PC's...

There is a free app on the Market called Droidbox (Pro version here) that connects you to your Dropbox account and off you go.

I like it because it does not force you to download anything until you need/want it on the mobile version. You can upload/download files and have it when you need it.

Yeah, I know it's not the same, but thought it would help with those that need/want to have files sync'd and available on their mobile.
 
thanks oniongirl..... I do love you for that. Have been fiddling with this for almost two months and couldn't get it to work. You'r my hero now :-)
