Considering Experia Z Appreciate your answers

Hi I have a Galaxy s3 currently great phone but voice call issues so going to exchange and looking at HTC one and Experia z (in uk)

I am concerned on two fronts from what I have read one is the dead phone syndrome and the other poor wifi /dropped wifi,

Can anyone comment / help?

I have two other queries...

1. How loud is the callers voice over the ear piece? I have slight noise induced deafness from playing in a band and need a fairly decent volume on calls (not bothered about ext speaker)

2. Scratches...I hate cases and additional screen protection is it durable in terms of scratches??

Thanks for the help all !

dead phone syndrome

Two weeks in and mine is still okay (touch wood). Others however haven't been so lucky. :(

other poor wifi /dropped wifi

No complaints here.

How loud is the callers voice over the ear piece?

My in-call volume is set to just above 50% and I've had no problems with audibility.

Scratches...I hate cases and additional screen protection is it durable in terms of scratches??

It's probably too early to tell, but I left the factory-fitted protector on the screen as it's (a) undetectable and (b) a hassle to remove. As it spends a lot of time on a dusty under-counter shelf at work I also fitted the supplied rear body protector.

Hi, two weeks here too. I have made a thorough comparison between the Xperia Z and the Galaxy SIII before choosing the Z. From my hands on experience now I can tell you that the phone's stable, works well, fast data/wifi speeds, voice is alright (not loud and not faint), camera is very good (maybe it's excellent but I keep comparing them to my Sony NEX-5 micro 4/3 camera which obviously is unfair). Music 'walkman' ap is great and very smart. The display especially when using the built in Album app is spectacular. On top of all this, this has got to be one of the most stylish android phones on the market today. It looks and feels so classy especially compared to the toy-like competitors. It's water/dust proof too.
I have one dislike about the phone though: it attracts finger print smudges quickly. Please note I said fingerprints only, I haven't seen any scratches on it at all and don't expect to with the dragon trail glass used. But I recently discovered that there are many screen protector makers that are making transparent front and back covers for the Z so that may be a good solution. Overall, I think it's the best phone today, both from a hardware and actually useful/functional software.

I would not recommend the Z myself, as a user of nearly a month. Camera is average and well under-performs its specifications, often producing shots worse than good 8mp shooters from last year, battery is poor relative to other handsets (may be sufficient depending on the user), calling average, loudspeaker poor, screen the worst 1080p panel we're likely to see this year (some users will be satisfied enough with it, for myself I'd take one of the better 720p panels from last year over it). Software is spotty at times - force closing of NFC, many users had some troubles with camera software (for me biggest problem from camera besides the quality of the images is the cold start-up time of ~5s), WiFi direct not working well, notification spam nag from pre-installed bloatware.

My take on the XZ is if you don't absolutely need the waterproofing you should skip it.
