My Virgin FCC complaint got responded to this week also now. I spoke with a lady from Sprint (different name than yours) and told her the symptoms and she told me it doesn't sound like a problem with my phone but the network and is going to send my issue to sprint engineering, not customer support. Told her how when I was in Atlanta for a 1 hour layover, and 5 days in Tampa, FL, my 3G was solid, and before and after this in Milwaukee it toggles between 1X and 3G every 30 seconds. Keep you guys updated on it, told I should wait 7 - 10 days for Engineering with their support queue.

Got my one v today and even in the short time I've used it data is so much better. I will miss my elite but will enjoy having working data.

It must be something with certain lg phones and Sprint's network. My work just got me the lg viper which is 4g but since we don't have 4g it runs 3g and it is horrible just like the elite

I've been on my second replacement phone the past two weeks and by all accounts it is worse than the previous one. This phone has problems connecting to Wifi as well. So after wasting an other hour talking to Virgin, this is what they offered me as replacements for my phone.

The Chaser, The Venture or A new Optimus Elite, but I have to pay them $70. I can upgrade to their more expensive phones but I have to change my plan to one of their new ones. I don't want to give them credit for being that smart, but could it be that they offered the Elite to get rid of those of us with the GF'd plans.

Needless to say, I just filed an FCC complaint and I'm going to try out the MetroPCS. They have a 7 day money back guarantee, so if it does not work out, you get all of your money back, including the monthly charge.

I'll write a guide that can maybe be a sticky this weekend that shows how to tell if you have the common 1X/3G constant toggling that causes a lot of us to have headache based on what cities we live in (I proved it wasn't the phone when I travelled to Tampa, FL and it was solid 3G all weekend and decent battery)

I'm still working with sprint on my Virgin Elite's issue after submitting the fcc complaint. Been bounced around no progress as of yet.

I think has to do with the coverage in my area and no the phone. When I am on the interstate near a big city, I can stream a YouTube video with very few stops. But in the smaller town where I live, I'm doing good to see pictures on FaceBook, etc.

I agree and disagree there. Yes when I'm in Baltimore I have a much better connection than when I'm at home. BUT my wife has VMU and the Optimus V and she can go to check in on Foursquare at the same time as I do and have her page loaded and done before I get anything. Same thing with webpages and streaming. She watched Netflix on her V's 3g before the app stopped working on it.

I do think it has something to do with the device as well as the signal.

Now I'm not quite sure if I'm experiencing the low data or if I'm not noticing it. On my Optimus V which got fair coverage from VM in Oregon where I live my 3G was great. Visiting my home state of California made my Optimus V coverage start to roam and drop non stop. I purchased the Elite and no more roaming issues just bad house coverage, I'm heading back to Oregon now and I'll update on my experiences to see if it's poor tower coverage in certain states or hardware related, as far as I know my phone is working top notch and I have no issues.

Now would all of this network bouncing and switching be the major factor in the battery life being short?

as macfett stated his phone was back to getting hot again meaning higher voltage surges > more battery demand

those bastards are probably working for the electric companies charging our phones all the time probably brings a great deal of $$$$ when exponential :hmmmm:

Absolutely!!!

The data issue is a fickle beast. I live in a small city in South Jersey (08332 if anyone is interested) and my Elite data speed/connection is MUCH better than my wife's OV. My Elite is even slightly better than her last and current iPhone 4s. I really don't know if this is because I got a "good" Elite or the area is just Elite "friendly".

Here's the results of my FCC complaint about the constant 2G/3G toggling every minute.
I was assigned an analyst a month ago, they had me work with "level 3" sprint. It ended up being "level 2" Virgin (more like level 1 even though it was the US support #) who would supposedly send the tickets up for "level 3" virgin. I'd have to call back to get an update just to find one or two days prior Level 3 sent it back "should be fixed". I'd then tell them sorry its still doing it, they'd send it back up, usually after some of the exact same troubleshooting as before with me on the phone (airplane mode, factory reset, open your browser what do you see.)
This happened probably 8 or 10 times over the month, and had to wait 48-72 hours for Level 3 to respond back to Level 2 EACH time. Level 3 appears to be a monkey in front of a staples "Easy Button".

Explained my frustration after a month passed to the lady assigned to my escalation (FCC complaint) and she is switching me to a HTC One V after I asked if I could just be switched to a different phone since this was going nowhere. Thats why I was paying $25/month I guess, because I was paying for zero technical know how from support. So I'm going to sell the One V unopened and switching to GSM with Straight Talk for a more universal standard where I can pick the phone from outside the carrier if need be.
It was fun guys, if the radio was better in this phone (probably radio SW) I'd never had to go through this. I'll keep watching the survey results on the sticky and update it, perhaps enough responses will be ammo some day to trigger something to benefit you guys.

I'm going bald from VMU. Spoke to them Sunday and was told I was being sent a replacement Elite to expect it Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest. Phone overheated and rebooted before the call ended so I called back and they verified my address and told me the same thing.

Thursday (today) I called to see where my Elite is. Was told there was no Elite being sent to me. Asked for a supervisor and after being told the supervisor would tell me the same thing I finally spoke with a Level 3 supervisor. Who said there was no Elite sent because it was back ordered and if I wanted a replacement I would have to call back on Saturday.

Those of you who filed an FCC complaint, did you use the complaint form? I don't see a category applicable.

My guess that would be closest is "Wireless Telephone."

That was what I thought too, but then the options didn't fit. I looked again this morning and see service and billing for wireless. Guess I missed that last night.

Almost a full month after my SEC complain a very nice lady from Sprint called me today. She sounded dismayed and maybe even a bit shocked to hear that I had switched carriers. I hope it serves her and Sprint/Virgin a notice that they need to take better care of their customers in order to keep them. I also hope it helps the rest of you who are dealing with the same issue.

Just wanted to add my vote that I think our 3g service is being prioritized.

During the middle of the night, 12am-5am I can stay connected to 3g 90% of the time.

During the day, its the opposite. Probably 80% of the time its 2g, 20% of the time 3g. And of course, it keeps jumping back and forth draining the battery.

Only variable is the time of day. I am testing with the phone in the same exact location tethered to my desktop.

After countless calls to VMU over a nearly 2 week period and 4 different RMA numbers I finally got my replacement Elite shipped. It should arrive today, not sure if FedEx will leave it or not though.

The new white elite arrived today. Just rooted it and am working on getting CWM onto it. Then I will activate and see if it is any better than my last 3.

Glad to hear you got a replacement! You might want to try Tagged or Sleipnir while you're at it, too. Especially once the builds with scripts active are out, there should be plenty of fixes for multiple data issues. Worth a shot at least.

At one point or another I've run all of the released ROMs on my 3rd Elite. Not nessicarily the newest builds, but at least one version of them. None seemed to do any better than any other with 3G.
