Help contacts name

hi all,

since buying this nexus i find new things very annoying.

press handset icon
call log appears
click any number and you see a message icon right of number and on top the name of contact
click message icon
in message editor no name only number appearing.

how to fix it?

regards

Hmm, is the particular number you're clicking part of your contacts? My theory is that you have Caller ID and Name Display so that in the call log you will see the number and the name, but when you go to text them, they are not in your contacts, hence, they don't have a name assigned to them.

Mine works just fine. Are you sure these people are listed in your contacts? I tried just about every one in my call log and every text message showed their name and number.

names are registered already in the phone.

tnx

How are they stored though? Are they in your "custom view" if you go through the People app? If you go into your gmail account through the browser and check your contacts, are these people in "My contacts" or "other contacts"?

There has to be something different about these contacts.

Have you tried a reboot?

i tried this: i added a contact to the nexus and once i go thru the call log to send a text the name doesn't appear but other names are appearing. is it coz it wasnt sync with gmail contacts?

so i sync my contacts with gmail. now how do i make gmail contacts to sync with the phone. do i need kies software?

regards

Choosing to sync contacts is all you have to do. The phone will do what it says and make sure everyone in Gmail is on your phone and vice versa.

What app do you use for composing outgoing texts? The stock messaging app, etc.?

If I use Handcent (a pay app) or some other one, it picks up the name. But if I use Google Voice (which I use by default for free texting), it doesn't display the name, just the number. And it doesn't matter whether I initiate it from a contact or the call log.

hi

i exported the contacts from gmail to csv file, how can i move it to root memory as i am new in the field in order to import to nexus contacts.

is there any other easy way to delete all contacts

thanks alot.

I am so confused by what you are doing and why. There is no reason to import export move or do anything at all with your gmail contacts. This is a smartphone not a dumbphone. Let it do its thing. All you have to do is go into settings>accounts & sync, then go down to your google account 'yourname@gmail.com' and click on it. You will see a list of all the possible items you can sync with your phone. Put a check next to contacts and wait. Your phone and gmail will sync and you'll forever have your contacts on gmail and the phone.

yes Tim,

all my contacts are sync in nexus and gmail but when i want to text a contact thru the call log some names dont appear as shown in the pictures link i posted earlier (also below) example abdo hazam names appears but gachon name doesnt appear.

contacts name - Page 2

thanks alot for being patient with me.

I see, so its something to do with contacts whose numbers begin with a +.

Seems like there are a lot of people experiencing problems with this and have been for years. It appears that there are some issues with the way android is handling international numbers and possibly the way certain carriers are passing caller ID info. From what I've read, sometimes the numbers have the + prefix, sometimes not, and sometimes no prefix. This appears to cause difficulty with callerID and name recognition on SMS messages. There are a couple of suggestions in the following pages, but I can't offer you any help as I'm a sheltered american who knows not how all these prefixes work! The only thought I have is to try putting both formats in for each contact. That way, no matter whether the number comes in with or without the prefix, your phone will recognize it. The downside may be that you have to choose which number to call each time. Again, I can't say for sure as I don't ever deal with international calling.

"Starring" an issue is the equivalent of voting it up as a problem. The more stars the more likely google will notice a problem. Just FYI.

Good luck.
