Help Contacts (People) is not syncing properly

Have you noticed how changes are not syncing properly between Google Contacts and the People application on the GNEX? I can;t seem to find the rhyme and reason to it. For some contacts things go well. For others changes are not syncing.

Any thoughts?

Care to elaborate? I haven't noticed any problems but I rarely look at my google contacts.

Changes to GNEX Contact notes do not sync back to Gmail Contact notes.

Example 1: I am looking at a Contact right now who has a note that reads, "Have a daughter named Ansley howell." Gmail Contacts reads, "Have a daughter named Ansley Howell." So let's repair this. I will capitalize the H on the GNEX and add "who is 6."

I am waiting and observing Gmail Contacts. Waiting Waiting.

OK --- the two are now out of sync.

Let's did some more on this. I will now make changes to Gmail Contacts:

To the same contact I will add to the existing note (Have a daughter named Ansley Howell) the following ---- "Who graduated from Valley HS."

I am now waiting and observing GNEX People. Waiting Waiting.

OK --- again no changes on the GNEX which now continues to read "Have a daughter named Ansley Howell who is 6."

OK ---- I am now going to delete the note on the GNEX.

Waiting.

Now the Gmail note appears on the GNEX: "Have a duaghter named Ansley Howell who graduated from Valley HS." The two are synced.

Now I am adding to the Gmail Contact note "She is 6"

Waiting ----

The GNEX add this also and the two continue to be in sync.

Now I am going to add to the GNEX note "And she is the smartest 6 year old to ever graduate from Valley HS."

Waiting -- Waiting .

No change on the Gmail side.

Changes to GNEX notes do not sync back to Gmail Contact notes.

I said above that changes to GNEX notes do not sync back to Gmail Contact notes. It the same the other way. Changes to Google Contacts do not sync back to GNEX People notes in the example above. I had to actually delete the GNEX note altogether to get the Gmail Contact to "sync" with the GNEX.

In short ---- notes syncing is unreliable and people need to know this. Also Google needs to repair.

I added a quick note about a customer to Google Contacts and when I got on the road it did not appear on the GNEX.

I just tested it out and mine is syncing properly both ways. Sync occurs within about 3 seconds too.

I actually would leave the contact open on my phone and watch the notes appear and disappear. Tried it on a couple of contacts.

Are you finding this with all contacts, or perhaps there are certain contact types that aren't updating properly?

I added a note to a different contact on the GNEX side and after 5 minutes it is still not appearing on the Google Contacts side.

However ---- when I made a change on the Google side to another field (Job Title), on save the note GNEX then appeared on the GNEX.

I then tried to replicate the above with 2 other contacts and in both instances the GNEX note information properly appeared.

I returned then to the example I used in the previous post and I continue to be unable to get the notes to sync correctly. With this particular contact, it seems that all other fields change and sync properly. The issue is with the notes.

For me at least --- I still will have to maintain that this feature is unreliable.

Thanks though for your help.

For the record I have not been to replicate the issue on an additional 2 contacts.

But the original recalcitrant contact continues not to sync properly.

I wonder if there isn't something about this one contact. It appears absolutely like any other contact.

You know what I just thought of..... I remember back to getting my original Droid, and I recall seeing some of my contacts would seem to have 'two accounts' under the contact. I realized that when you merged contacts in google, they never truly merged. They were always kept as two joined contacts and the data was just joined together and displayed as one. And you could even go into the contact and un-merge them. I eventually went through and cleaned up all my contacts by unmerging and deleting the duplicate.

I wonder if maybe this is related? Maybe the contacts that aren't syncing the notes field are merged and maybe the part of the contact that is being updated isn't syncing or something?

Try going into the contact on your phone, editing it, and once in the edit hit the menu button and see if you have an option to separate - I can't remember what its called....I know to merge them the menu option is 'join'.

There's gotta be something funky with this contact.

I tried to merge contacts and duplicate this problem but it didn't have the same effect. Though I noticed that you can no longer un-merge. Maybe your problem contact is a holdout from the old days.

Thanks for your help and suggestions: I do not have this issue with this contact. I will keep my eye on the syncing to see if I can find a pattern. Thanks!
