Help Contacts taking up huge space

The Facebook app and Facebook Online Directory are two completely different things and you need to log in to each seperately. The app data shows basic wall posts, messages, etc and doesn't cache very much data, while the directory service downloads contact info, personal data and profile pics for ALL Facebook friends and adds it to your phone Contacts, and the size of the stored data is related to how many FB friends you have. Best guess is that each FB friends need about 80-100k storage.

It should also be mentioned that simply using Facebook for HTC Sense does result in bloating to an extent, but does not cause the same issues as the Facebook Online Directory.

That's correct, it stores cache data just like most other apps, but nowhere near as much as the Directory. Easy to delete the cache every month through Manage Applications :)

Did you read the thread?

Beacause a hard reset is not necessary, clearing the data in contact storage does the job just fine.
That may be your experience and no doubt others but that is NOT the case for all of us - read some more threads on this and other forums.

So if you clear the data & then re-sync with Google this sometimes reduces the amount of space it takes up?

Phone: EVO 4G/Sprint / Android 2.3.3
Facebook: 1500+ "Friends"
Google Contacts: 1000+

After reading the posts, I did the following:

Confirmed issue on EVO:
-> Settings
-> 'Manage Applications'
-> View 'All' Apps
-> 'Menu' button
-> "Sort by Size"
-> Contacts was largest app with over 40Megs used

Resolved Issue:
-> Settings
-> Manage Applications
-> All Apps
-> Facebook
-> (It was using almost 20Megs)
-> Clicked on 'Facebook' to review application details
-> 'Force Stop'
-> 'Clear Data'
-> Now it has less than 2Megs
-> All FB contacts were removed from Contacts

Contacts are no longer largest app.. still need to clean out Google Contacts.. but that is another project

Thanks for the help everyone..
