Help Converting Movies

Hi Folks

Going to start filling up my sd card with some films, has anyone got an idea as to the resolution i should encode the films to, just want to get the best out of the screen

Well, the screen has a 1280x720 resolution, so wouldn't that be the ideal resolution for video encoding as well?

Otherwise, if space is a premium, I guess you could encode video at 640x360, which is exactly 1/4 of 1280x720. Most of the videos I've encoded are at 640x360. (All of my encoded video are 16:9 only so far.)

Depends, either encode them to 720p if you plan to watch them almost exclusively on the device, or 1080p if you plan to use an MHL cable a bit too.

im not an expert but i believe if u only want to watch it on the device then 480p should be enough.
But i converted all of the movies to 720p mkv, and with vidcoder I can limit the size to max 1gb/movie.

Most of the time I use Handbrake as well. However, if I want to encode a video with burned-in subtitles from a Blu Ray source (Handbrake can only burn-in subtitles from DVD sources, the last time I checked), then I use RipBot264 (RipBot264 v1.17.3 - Simple and easy to use GUI -> IPOD . PSP . CONSOLES . BLURAY - Doom9's Forum).

Ripbot is awesome. That's what I use to archive my HD recordings.

I just keep everything at 720p instead of encoding videos for the phone twice. Besides, the phone is 720p, so it's not like it's overkill.
