Root CPU won't recognize phone....

My girlfriends computer refuses to recognize my phone and I don't know what is up with that! I had it workin' a few times. I got LG drivers out the wazoo too! Shows removable disc "insert disc". Shouldn't it automatically install drivers it needs?

are you turning on the usb storage? otherwise it will just see it as an adb device

I've had this issue for a while now, and I just kinda gave up on it. Works fine on my laptop at home. I don't like removing my sd card every time I want to transfer info between my phone and my girl's CPU. If anyone has any ideas, or can coach me a little, I'd be stoked. Thanks!!
***not really urgent, just an annoyance**

What you need is Dropbox.
http://db.tt/7HsvZPa

Have you and your girlfriend set up a Dropbox account.
Then share a folder between accounts.
Drop a file in a shared folder and it syncs to all the shared computers.

Use the above link to sign one of you up. We'll both get an extra 250 MB of storage. They give you 2GB FREE. Invite the other one to join using the first account and get another 250 MB free. You can get up to 8 gigs of free storage inviting friends to join.

Anyone looking for an easy way to sync or move files between computers and/or phones should look into Dropbox.

you could always use device manager to uninstall the drivers, then plug your phone in and let it auto install the normal phone drivers then reinstall the proper android drivers from the google sdk.

Removing your SD card from the phone for data transfer instead of using the USB cable is a bad idea. I got into trouble once doing that, even though I had "unmounted" it and even turned off the Ally. I don't recommend doing it unless you have no other choice (like to replace or reformat the SD card).

Yeah I would uninstall all the drivers that are currently there. Then plug in the phone and see what the computer loads first, and then get the LG Mobile Updater and download the USB drivers through that too.

I uninstalled all LG drivers, plugged in my phone, said installing device hardware, and installs all but one(LGE Android Platform USB modem #2)? I installed drivers from LGMU too. Shows removable disk ,then says please insert disk into removable disk (k). It shows that it's connected but won't let me read the sd card.
I'm probably gonna just wait 'til I get home and copy my drivers from my laptop into my Dropbox (which I already had set up .....thanks!) and open 'em up and load the same ones on here. That should work right?
Thanks for your advice and your time guys. I'll keep you posted!!

That sure is strange. I wonder if it is a problem with your SD card? I have had three "corrupt SD card" events since I got the Ally. I am pretty sure the first one was caused by my removing the card (even after carefully "unmounting it" on the Ally) to transfer data with a USB adapter.

The last 2 issues both happened on a replacement Class 10 16GB SD card I got from NewEgg. But I think both those instances were due to a faulty data connection in the LG Ally Desktop Dock I was trying to use, after buying it on Amazon. It works fine to charge the Ally. But a couple times I had it "disconnect" on me halfway through copying files. So I think its data line connection is somehow intermittent. Since I stopped using the dock and only use a direct cable from the PC to the Ally (DON'T use a HUB either!!) I have had no problems.

You aren't using a hub to connect are you? That could be your problem right there. Make sure you only plug the cable directly into a USB port on the computer case. I wasn't even able to connect when first installing the LG Drivers when I tried to use a hub port. But when I moved the cable directly to the PC it connected immediately.

Nope, no hub either??
my sd is class 6, 8gb and all works fine at home!!
And she's got a super-swanky Dell PC. .....win 7

I'm inclined to wonder if it has something to do with file permissions? Windows 7 loves to toss those roadblocks in front of you whenever you try to do something. Odd that it worked before and not now. I wonder if any security settings were changed?

If the PC is behind a router, you might try turning off the Firewall and/or AntiVirus program to see if it allows the Ally to connect that way.

I have had a similar issue. Mine used to connect just fine, then wouldn't. No known changes to the PC. Mine will only connect if I turn off USB Debugging. Tried wiping and reinstalling drivers, same issue. Turned off debugging, connects just fine.

One thing about it, there is no shortage of internet forum posts when it comes to this problem. Google returns thousands of hits for 'PC won't recognize android phone'.

Reading some of those, I am reminded that it might also be a bad USB cable. Trying a different cable, or different USB port on the same PC, might help.

My computer had this issue as well. Today I deleted ALL the software off my Ally and all i had remaining was bootloop that would go to a blue screen, I thought I ruined my Ally for sure. What I did was completely uninstall all my drivers for the device and google a program called LGmobile update. You plug in the phone and it will read it...blah..blah. Then it will say to unplugged it to correctly install the drivers. Do so. You should have to install like 3 different things. I'm not a tech guy, but this worked on my Toshiba laptop.

Still no luck getting this to work for me?

Do you get the tones for USB device inserted (presuming you haven't turned those off) on the PC and the Ally the instant you plug the cable between them? I forget if you are using a Windows PC? If so, does the Safely Remove... icon appear in the task tray?

Have you tried a different USB cable? When you plug the cable into the Ally, is it a very snug fit, or does it feel loose, or can you move the plug in any direction (be gentle)? Mine has to be perfectly aligned it the plug won't insert. If yours is at all loose, you have a problem that will need remedying. I have seen a website with a video detailing how to repair a loose USB jack on the Ally (not for the faint hearted or non-mechanically inclined, however).

Yeah, I get the little "boop boop" tone. Using win 7, icon comes up. I click on removable disk and it says insert disk? USB cable works fine on my laptop at home? I'm befuddled???
Maybe it's not the drivers at all, but if that's the case, what's my next move?

I am wondering, then, if it is a USB issue on the Win7 PC. Are you familiar with Device Manager (accessible through System)? Check in the USB section to see if there are any unrecognized items (yellow question marks). Do other USB devices connect OK on this PC? Also is it a retail PC or home built? The USB drivers for the motherboard maybe could use an update. Easy if it's home built, sometimes harder if it's retail. Some vendors aren't good about supplying such things.

I'll provide what help I can, as I have a Win7 PC to which we can compare. Which version of Win7 is it?

It's Win 7 Home Premium(Soon to be Ultimate, or whatever?), retail built. I know it's gotta be something stupid I'm overlooking.

You might try Googling the issue as well. I often find exactly the solution I need that way. I'm betting it is a USB issue. I have little love for USB. More problematic than it is worth IMO.

I'm gonna un-install all lg stuff, android stuff from my girl's "nice" computer and just see what happens? My girl doesn't even have a "smart"phone so I don't think she'll care much!

After screwin' with this dilemma for a good while now I finally got it to work!!!
Guess I uninstalled and reinstalled the right shit. I can access my SD card and move stuff about without removing said SD card. I just started installing every LG usb driver I could find in my files. I think it was one of the ones in the Froyo file that did it? I don't care ....it now works!!
Still says "LGE Android USB Modem Failed", but it's workin'. Anybody got a fix for that or should I just let it ride?
I can now move on to more important, legitimate queries!!!!
Until then, thanks and peace out guys:cool:!!

Glad you got it working, Azuma, but I'm not too sure on that error you are still getting. Since I just did these to screen shots to hopefully be helpful in your efforts, I'll attach them anyway. These were taken with my Ally connected by USB to my Win7x64bit Home Premium PC. One is what you should see in Device Mgr, and the other is what you should see in the programs and features list (Add/Remove programs, back in WinXP).

Maybe this will shed some light on the remaining error. Perhaps you have unwanted duplicates of a driver installed? You should not see any yellow question marks in Device Mgr.. See the items circled in red.

:mad:Just tried it today to see if it still works and that's a big NO!!! I compared the screenshots and I have the ones you have listed(thanks). So I suppose I'm gonna beat my head against the wall a little more!?!? I just don't get it? I feel like a total douche all of a sudden?
Is there like, a list of, or checklist of required drivers somewhere, cuz I'm kinda gettin' a little short-tempered??? Thanks..
