Crap android

What a piece of crap this OS has become. With each new update I get more problems. Force closes every few minutes and crashes. This is after formatting and reinstalling, before downloading any apps etc.. Garbage. Way back in the good ol days of 2.2 my phone worked flawlessly and now it hardly works at all.

I hear ya on that one...

I think it's quite isolated though, meaning not every user is hit with problems. I had updates that messed with two of my phones. I rooted my current one cuz it works just fine, I don't want any updates! :)

Depending on what phone you have, maybe you could root it, find the os that it came with and reinstall the original os without the updates. Then block the updates like I have. :)

Just by some off chance, do a hard reset and at the same time format your sd card. I have heard stories of an sd card wreaking havoc on the android os. Then if that doesn't work, try another sd card.

The best route if you're out of warranty would be to reload the original os or try another rom if you feel like playing around. :)
 
If the OP owns a Nexus One, isn't it obvious that he will crash and lag on ICS? The Nexus one doesn't have enough power to run the OS. Its like trying to run Skyrim on Ultra High in a 1st gen HP Mini.
 
There is nothing in the post to say that the OP is running ICS. If they are still running official software and updates then on an N1 it will be gingerbread.

Personally I find that there is nothing wrong with AOSP Gingerbread on the rather similar HTC Desire. No experience of the official version.

Seems rather bad though if the OP's phone is a Nexus one and Google are pushing their official ICS out to older Nexus phones that can't run it properly. We're just assuming it's a Nexus though?

Google said only the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus are getting ICS because Nexus One doesn't have enough hardware oomph.

If you're having ongoing issues with Gingerbread updates, there are remedies posted around the various device forums here at AF. ;)

Speculation in this thread is that you have a Nexus One. Google/Android hardware has evolved a bit since that phone came out, but if you like it enough to keep it, I'd suggest rooting it so you can eventually get the most out of what it has to offer, and what the Nexus One dev community has to offer. :)

Android evolves so quickly the hardware becomes dated fairly quickly. It's interesting when you compare the iPhone 4S against the 3GS. The hardware is not all that different. This why you still see people rocking the 3GS and are perfectly happy with it and it runs the current OS without any problems. Look at an Android phone released three years ago though and the hardware is vastly inferior to what's on the market today. The older phones (Google branded or no) just don't have the hardware to run the newer OS versions.

I have to disagree with your view of the OS. Android has been on a continuos improvement since it was introduce, ICS that is the latest version and is consider the best by many. Now if you can provide the forum members of what device and OS version you are running maybe they can help you with your problem. This forum is well known to help any individual, new or old to solve their issues.

I'd like to mention the same can be said of the iPhone 3G and the iOS 4 update. Simply put, the device just doesn't have the power to handle the new firmware.
 
I have to say, since I got my Galaxy Nexus I have been a lot happier. I had a lot of issues with my Xperia Play. My Droid X was ok, but the Xperia Play was a gimmicky piece of trash. I've been with Android since Droid X on 2.1, and have been happy with all of the updates.

Yup. The difference in hardware from 3G to 4S is as different as the Hero to the Rezound or the One.
