Root crap, phone bricked

Thanks for the reply and encouragement. I am always learning, and I do not plan on stopping until I'm six feet under, I also own 5 patents and have about 10 more in the works, I do not think of myself as stupid. How was I suppose to know that the driver I installed did not install correctly. I don't speak computer even though my father in-law built the Binac, which is the father/mother of all the computers everyone uses today.

When I reinstalled the driver Odin worked and I am up an running, The sats are now locking even though the GPS works like crap.

I started out with a C-64 in my early twenties. My biggest problems with computers is remembering everything I can do with them.

If I cant fix this damn phone or tm doesn't give me a phone that works the way it was advertised to it going back before Friday.

I'm sure there has been a response to this and more development on your progress in the last 7 days, but in regards to this statement, do you not realize that you installed a lag fix, rooted your device, and did God knows what else to it to customize it or install apps that you wanted? How is that not working "the way it was advertised to"? They never mentioned to do that in the TV ads. All of this stuff you do at your own risk, every software and post advertising such software warns of this.

LMAO, well no one asked for your thoughts. If you can't leave either encouraging or helpful comments, don't leave a comment at all. This forum is here to help each other out, not to bash and discourage users.

The OP actually did ask for other's thoughts:
I'll be honest. I have had more problems in the last month with this phone then I had with my G1 for a year and a half you would think that as technology gets better things would work better, I must be nuts to think such a thing.

Making such a statement begs for other's involvement in an online environment. OP, you seem like a tinkerer, which is fantastic, but you just need to take a step back a little and know what you're doing (and a recovery plan if things go wrong) before you do it.

FYI: This was a helpful post in disguise. Knowing what to do is half the battle. Doing it, and knowing how to fix it, is the other half.

FYI2: I'm glad you got your device operational again. I'm sure you learned a lot from it, and are more savvy because of it.

where do I begin; bought the phone specifically because the g-1 was crashing and almost 2 years old (stock) and I wanted an updated phone so I bought the Vibrant based on the reviews I read.

This new phone in stock form;
crashed constantly where the battery had to be pulled to reboot
froze constantly
constant lag problems and sometimes I couldn't even answer a call with out rebooting.
gps did not work and I specifically need it on a daily bases for work
with other annoyances

was told and from reading that a fix was coming and that I could root it with a lag fix and most of the issues would be fixed except for the GPS and this would get me by until the update.
worked great for about ten days when I updated some of the apps everything went bad and the phone started acting up so I uninstalled one of the apps to reinstall and the phone soft bricked.

This is when this thread started, so I stand by my original statement. I never planed on modding this phone I just wanted it to work as advertised.
Yes I am learning, do I wish to go through this, NO I am forced to partly because TMobile does not have another high end phone to replace this at this time.
If a quality fix for the GPS does not come out soon. I will be forced to trade it for something else that works as its supposed to.

I will admit that some of the new roms comming out look interesting.

SetCPU is NOT one of your average apps. You're making it sound like you have issue running Youtube and therefore you had to uninstall it and now you're having issues.

You really need to read up on apps before randomly install stuff.

I presume you put SetCPU on your device before all the problems started happening? If not, isn't it common sense to simply take the phone back and exchange it for another if you haven't modified the software structure and it's acting up so badly? That's why I presume you installed SetCPU first. Additionally, since you were not aware of the driver issues or how to re-install a fresh ROM when you thought it was bricked, I presume that you are as tech savvy as the average user(not an insult, just making an observation. We all accel at different things), meaning you probably did not know exactly why you were setting certain variables in SetCPU, meaning you may have set something incorrectly. Anybody who knows anything about overclocking will understand what I'm getting at here.

Again, I'm glad you got your device working, but you really shouldn't blame the manufacturer for phone problems that you caused or other people's constructive critisism for tearing you down. This whole experience that you just had (and are continuing to have) is building your problem solving skill set so that you will be more informed the next time you try to put a V8 engine inside of a Ford Fiesta when all you've done is changed the oil before.

There are reasons the phone was not returned immediately and I dont wish to get into all the details. set cpu was installed on the phone after rooting and the phone was not OC'd

Please dont make assumptions not in evidence.

I still do not understand why the phone soft bricked just because I uninstalled set cpu? The reason I removed the program is because I would open it and it would show a range of 100-528 and if I closed it and reopened it. it would show a range of 100-1000. None of the settings would stay. I figured that it had become corrupted somehow when the update was done.

As I said I am learning.

And I did not blame samsung for my issues after having problems with the phone from what I had done. I only blame them for the issues with the phone in stock form. (see above)
