Help Crawling slow speeds.... All of a sudden

Takes forever to load pictures on webpages and even Facebook.. Also too about 3 minutes to update a 3mb app... How can I fix this???

Had the same issue in the past week. I have unlimited data. Just finished a chat with AT&T support and they are giving me a new sim for free. They offered to either ship it to me or have one available at any corporate AT&T store. Phone works fine other than apparent inability to connect to LTE network. Shows 2-3 bars with 4G LTE symbol, but when running speed tests, or downloading apps, speeds are abysmal. Mobile apps seem fine. Hopefully a new sim is the fix. I'll let you know what happens.

Will probably help. Those ARE pretty abysmal under any circumstances. Could send code faster using smoke signals.

Did some research and it seems that I've been been throttled.. I have an unlimited plan but apparently around 6gb is the limit... It was on the 29 day of my billing cycle. It seems to have reset its self this morning.

I was going to ask but I was under the impression that you would have known if you had been throttled. I was under the impression that they send you a notification to that effect.

I got no notification whatsoever..

Can they legally do that? I pay a premium fee to have 4glte and they can just turn it off on me and still charge me based on me actually using it to its potential??

In a word, yep. Is it ethical? Shakier question.

Turns out I was throttled as well. I had used 4.7GB so far this month, billing cycle ending on Feb 9th. So I got full phone functionality for 3 weeks out of the month, which is bullshit. I have "unlimited" data, in the loosest definition of the term. Once I reach an arbitrarily decided and constantly fluctuating usage level, my service goes to 150-300 kbps. This is essentially bait and switch. Last month, my first month with the phone, I used a little over 3GB. I was told today at the AT&T store that in my region, North Texas, I am in the top 5% data users at 4.7GB. I don't consider myself a heavy user; no movie streaming, no video conferencing, no large downloads at all to speak of.

AT&T doesn't have the infrastructure to support LTE yet, plain and simple. They try to hide behind the letter they sent out in August '11 and the text message alerts, neither of which I received. Apparently they will send you a text when you reach the top 5%, which you may or may not receive. Right before I left the store, the girl basically told me that at 3GB, they throttle you if you are on "unlimited". The 5GB plan is $50 vs. "Unlimited" at $30, which is basically a 3GB plan. Only helpful thing they offered was their suggestion to closely monitor running applications with the native tool, which I thought may be helpful to some people. I do it anyway since it's a good way to conserve battery.

They'll also send you a text message letting you know that your at 5%.
of top usage.

Tell you to start using wi-fi connection

Unlimited data users will be throttled every month depending on if you're a top 5% data user. I've gotten the email after using 2 gigs of data. I believe this month top 5% users so far are in the 2+ gigs of data. It'll vary from month to month.

Turns out AT&T has forgone the pleasantries of giving people notifications via text messages. They just throttle you and leave you to figure out why.

Now onto the pulpit... there's no such thing as unlimited data. AT&T's contract with you allows them to do this in the interest of the network at large. Pay no attention to the morons at XDA who think they're going to sue AT&T or harass the CEO of the company over the issue. 200 million kids treating their phones like TV sets overloads network capabilities and business people can't get anything done. In this scenario, business people win. I don't think I've ever used more than 2G in a month... even in the "honeymoon period" of having a new phone. There are times when a web client calls me and needs something simple changed on their site immediately. I can FTP into their server, download the files that need to be changed, make the alterations, and send them back... from my phone while I'm riding a city bus. If the network is congested with people watching the latest viral video on YouTube, I can't get this done. Ya'll need to learn how to dump audio/video that you want to consume onto the phone itself. At least with an unlimited plan, which I still have myself, you can still do some browsing... you might have to cut back on YouTube, which is better used at home on larger screens and bigger audio systems without incurring extra charges. Learn to use WiFi when it's available. It's faster and makes for a more enjoyable experience.

I know this ticks people off, but it's reality. Deal with it.

You sound like you work for at&t. Anyway I've used 2331 mb's so far this billing period. My data will reset itself on the 19th. Why should I dump audio that I stream 5 days out of the week at the gym. That's why I paid $30 bucks for. To have unlimited data...not throttled data. Anyhow, it seems as if they only throttle during peaks hours. So I will continue to stream radio early in the mornings. They need to go after people who tether illegally not users who stream visit or adios.

when you guys do get throttle please take the time to call att. ask for the throttle response call center.

have them note your account of issues like

mms not working
web pages not loading
market not working showing "no connection"
gps not working
maps not working
etc etc

don't report things are working slowly. they do not understand that 9 times out of 10 the phone simply does not operate correctly at the speeds they are throttling to.

and if you have the time, make an fcc complaint to the same effect...not just some rambling about how it is bs and should be illegal.

until people report that the phone actually fails to operate as advertised while throttled..nothing will be corrected.
