Help Creating a Mobile Ethernet Port

So I've got this LG Optimus V, works great, I've got a widget that lets me turn on and off the Wifi Hotspot functionality. I've tried to use a wireless bridge to turn that Wifi connection into a WIRED connection, to no avail. (I tried the Netgear WNCE2001.) Like the title says, I NEED a WIRED INTERNET PORT that is totally mobile that will work wherever I can pick up 3G. I can explain why, but it really doesn't matter for the sake of this thread. Does anyone know if there is a device that will change the phone's broadcasted Wifi signal into a wired signal?

Alternatively, there may be some funky USB to Ethernet cable conversions that might do the same thing, without having to go through the wifi widget...

Assume I've got an infinite budget, and suggest any crazy zany idea you can think of. It doesn't even need to be using the LG Optimus V. It could use another phone, etc.

You can just use PDAnet or easytether to connect via USB.

If you use PdaNet it gives you an option to hide said tethering activity. the others don't. Also you can download it onto you PC if you can't find it on the market.

OK, I'm going to get PDAnet now. ... It's $16 at PdaNet for Android Purchase Agreement or it's free on the Android Store. Oh, I see. The free version limits secure sites. I can't find the pay version on the Android Store...

But I'm still missing some hardware. How do I go from the phone's USB to a standard Ethernet jack (male or female, it doesn't matter)?

Edit: The port on the LG Optimus V is called a Micro-B USB port, I believe. So would one of these work: http://www.amazon.com/USB-Micro-Ada...YMU6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311188734&sr=8-1
In addition to one of these:

???

It seems, at least to me, you're making this way more complicated than it needs to be... For what you want to do, you already had everything you needed, as described in your initial post. The WNCE2001 should work... you might try reading its documentation in greater details, seek help in the Netgear support forum(s), and determine the proper configuration setup for it.

Yeah what are you trying to connect? I don't think any kind of apparatus or app on the market today can turn your USB tethering signal into a ethernet/cat32 signal. Almost every USB tethering app on the Android Market requires a PC end server. If you're trying to hook up your phones 3g to a device that A: Isn't a computer or B: Isn't WiFi capable then I would say your out of luck.

You asked for the application, so you're gonna get it:

I'm a DirecTV satellite technician. We have these devices called "DirecTV Ethernet to Coax Adapters", or DECA for short. They are needed for DirecTV customers to access the on-demand features through their internet connection. What the DECA does is self explanatory in it's name. (The DirecTV receivers communicate to the internet via their coaxial ports.) This is the device I need to connect. It is not wireless, it is 100% WIRED, needing an Ethernet port with internet.

The reason I need to provide wired internet access on the fly is because often times a new customer will sign up, and request the on-demand features. However, if they do not have internet AT THE TIME OF INSTALL, I AM NOT ALLOWED TO INSTALL THE ON-DEMAND. This is extremely common, as most customers are moving, or changing internet providers, and they are "getting internet next week," etc. This means I'm forced to either A: tell the customer they can't get on-demand, and install the system (rare - customer's hate this). B: tell the customer they have to reschedule (also a pain - customer's hate this too). I get paid by the job. These on-demand unites force me to reschedule all too often, meaning I'm driving around town and not getting paid. I need to provide internet just long enough for the DECA unit to connect, and then verify that the connection exists by spitting out a five digit confirmation code that I can then use to prove the customer had internet at the time of install, and therefore get PAID for the job. It's 100% legit, it's not underhanded, and it's a win-win-win (for me, for the customer, and for the service provider DirecTV).

Sorry for the late reply, my wife gave birth and all that stuff. :p

HEY! I'm posting this using the WNCE2001 (connected to my desktop) and my phone's internet connection! The WNCE2001 shows a yellow or red WLAN connection (poor) but that's OK, as long as it transmits. The phone is only about 2 feet from the WNCE. Also, my cell phone reception here is TERRIBLE, and I barely get internet access through the phone (so maybe that's why it's red?). Today I'll field test it, and see if the WNCE2001 will perform the miracle I need.

I'll keep you updated.

Update:

Works like a CHARM. First, I used my Belkin N300 wireless router (with WPS) at home to setup the WNCE2001.

Then I took the WNCE into the field, and used the LG Optimus V as a hotspot (using a Hotspot Widget). I found that I needed to plug in the WNCE2001 AFTER turning on the Optimus hotspot. It would take about 30 to 60 seconds, but every time I tried it, it worked great. Even once when I had zero to one bar for signal strength... it still managed to pull in enough 3G to spit out the connection code I needed.

This is incredible!

Glad to hear this worked for you. I used to do network installs and I got paid even if I couldn't complete the work (customer's fault not mine) but I can totally understand the suckage of not being able to finish the job and having to go back a 2nd time to get paid.

Glad you got it working... Not being judgmental nor am I connected with VM except as a customer, but VM may not view it as 'win-win' though since you're using tethering--a violation of the TOS--for business uses no less. You might look into their Broadband2Go options since you've "got an infinite budget". ;) With a MiFi connection, you would be able to use your OV for voice calls simultaneously while having an active Internet connection. With just the OV, you cannot talk and use 3G at the same time. The costs could be written off as business expenses anyway. Something to consider... best to you and your newborn.

True, true. Thanks for the info!
