cupcake tomorrow?

I believe that link is about people with root access putting the newest build of cupcake on their phones and it mostly works.

To quote: "according to jbq, the biggest missing pieces are wifi (I

I've recently imported my G1 from the USA to the Netherlands.
According to the blog you are referring, the OTA update will take place region by region, so you think I will get the update?

And what should be better, update immediately, or wait for a modded version (with root)?
Really looking forward to A2DP though.

I've just spent 20 minutes on the phone with T-Mobile UK' tech guys...

The guy I spoke said they have had NO info at all about Cupcake, or indeed any other G1 update.

He said and I quote ... "We will usually release updates 3 to 6 months AFTER the US does"

So, unless google get off their backsides and tell them they have to update ASAP we will be waiting a LONG LONG Time!

I don't understand where people get this stuff. From a Google employee (irc):

<mlester> how long til cupcake is stable?
<jbq> mlester: get to work, fix all those bugs! Seriously, it's at least weeks away.

This was today. It will come out when it's ready, patience :)

Besides Kogan this might be a good WARNING for all the Members of OHA not to jump to quick onto the Google-Android bandwagon ... to Google's misfortune and slow, to no real response and not being forthcoming or more timely with updates ... even if the updates are smaller in scope ...

I am using this as a lesson and matter of study and will help me decide how to move in the future ... this was a cheap move for me .. as my last phone was a SE 990i $450 used, and was a great phone, just not as exciting as the G1 ...

I talked to a customer service rep (Bob) from tmobile last night (01/15/2009). He said that he was aware of the cupcake update and said that the actual release date wast the 15th. He said that tmobile is not responsible for the OTA updates. He said google pushes the updates themselves. He also said the cupcake release should be pushed to all G1 handsets starting on the 15th. Keep in mind that these guys make like 4 pesos and hour so I am not sure how reliable the info was but if you want it straight from the horse's mouth, dial 611, ask for G1 support then ask for Bob.

Bear in mind that that just applies to one territory, the US... Europe/UK is vastly different, and run their own infrastructure for updates, the guy I spoke to "Matt" said that they (t-mobile) are wholey responsible for OTA updates on their network.

Also bear in mind that Google only merged the code base 6 DAYS ago, and there will be issues, so they will need to solve these merge issues 1 at a time, then spend at least 7 days (usually a month for phone firmware) testing it on live handsets.

I called TMO and asked for Bob & Matt and they were both fired for giving fasle info :D but Tina did ask me what I was wearing .

How can any of you say you know when what will happen ??????

Seriously where do you poeple come up with the dates for stuff ???

Do you throw a dart at a calendar ??

Please explain.

I know dates because I work in handheld game development, so we are privvy to the usual cycle of things :P

Kabby, I just had surgery and ur comments made me laugh, very funny. I install a home automation product with touchpanels and let them take their time trust me. If it does not beta well or they don't fix bugs I can't imagine the comments on this board. They are doing the correct thing here and yesb I want my update last week also

I think some people are upset about this because they choose to be upset. Because they clearly have too much free time and not enough to do with it. I'm up at 430am and don't get home until almost midnight, I don't have time to be on pins and needles about an update. It'll come when it comes, in the grand scheme this is nothing to be upset about.

I think at least some of the urgency people have for cupcake, comes from the fact that many of the features listed should never have have been left out at launch. No stereo Blue-tooth? C'mon. Still to me, the current code is shaky enough as it is, and I would prefer my cupcake well done as opposed to undercooked. Let 'em test it, it will be here soon enough.

idk, i just want something in the update to justify dropping my iphone, payong 200 deactivation, etc. i like the G1 more, but money = money.

The thing that annoys me the most are the bugs with the POP3 email collection. I have to reset my phone 2-3 times a day due to the connection error bug that is specifically listed as fixed in the cupcake release.

The other stuff get whistle, I just want that one damned fix!

Im sure Im not the first to post it but here you go:
FACT - T-Mobile will not just provide Cupcake elements to the G2 and leave the G1 behind.
FACT - The next update will be called RC31 and include Cupcake elements.
FACT - The mass of calls lately for Cupcake is registering and causing T-Mobile to double their efforts in getting the update out.
FACT - NO ONE has received RC31 as of today.
FACT - When the update is released it will be done in stages

I dont know about any of the the other so called facts, but if you call TMO and tell them your battery is not holding a charge/discharges to quickly, the will send you a new one.

How do I know this ?

Because they did it for me. My first battery would only go maybe 4 hours on standby. Now stanby is at least 7 hours. The new battery was the same size as the old one.

Anyway "cupcake" was cancelled. Now we have to wait for "apple pie". The "apple pie" branch will solve all your G1 phone problems. It is scheduled to be released in 2013. I know thats a ways away but hey we have waited this long.:D

WOOOW that is what I really call "Pie in the SKY !! " ... :D
