Current enough?

Hi there,

I am thinking of making a switch from Verizon to Sprint and have narrowed my phone selection to the EVO. I tried to like the Shift, because I would love a good HTC real keyboard, but the screen is too small. (I'm currently using a Droid X and love the big screen) Don't want a Samsung Epic on 2.1, either, so that leaves the EVO. I know the EVO has been out for a while... do you all still feel like it's a "current" handset, or are you starting to look for a new device?

Thanks!

There's no way to know for sure. The Evo really isn't *that* old. It should still hold up for a little while. Sprint has some announcement coming out on February 7th. Who knows what it will be, though. It could be Anrdoid related, but it might not. I can say, though, that the Evo is a great phone. I'd be happy with it even if I had to keep it for another year+.

I just got my evo 4 g and I am really impressed. I have been using the phone none stop. My I phone friends have been asking a lot of questions like oh wow you can do that and what app is that ? I feel like this phone is one of the top of the line phones, you can so so much with this phone its intense. I say you get this phone and if something fancy comes out just save up and get that later.

I agree with akazabam. It will depend on what will be available in the near future. As of the time being, everything I need/want in a phone, my phone does (w/ the help of other apps, of course). But as for speed, it's fast enough for me. So who knows? I might be keeping this phone for the next 5 years (like my Treo 650) or there might be something out there that might just convince me to buy the next best thing. :)

The Evo does everything you can imagine a smartphone could do and then some. I've had mine since launch day and it is a constant companion. Then if you really want to unlock it's potential head on over to the XDA forums and see more exciting options available. I'm holding my breath on Sprint's Feb. announcement. I'm think it has something to do with Android just by those sneaky little web ads going around. But yeah, Evo is the best purchase I've made in years.

@jkmasi

If you are just switching carriers for a phone why not wait?, verizon is getting the htc thunderbolt which is their version of the evo.

It's enough for me and what I do but I'll still probably upgrade when the new latest and greatest comes out. The evo is kicking the crap out of every other phone I've played with from any of the other carriers though, that's for sure. It's a great phone.

I'm not switcing just for the phone. I am considering switching because Sprint has service at our house in WV, where I spend most weekends, and Verizon doesn't. That I would have to get a new device is just a side benefit!

Yep. Just stopped by a VZW store to check out the Galaxy Tab. He tried to tell me the Thunderbolt would be better since it was on VZW's network even though it's technically pretty much the same phone. I then asked him to match my Sprint plan feature for feature at the same cost and I'm in....... Can you hear me? Can you hear me now?:D

what is even better is that when you root your phone, it is like an entirely new and different phone. each time i flash a rom i have a different phone. each time i add a theme it is different. my phone will never get old. the only move for me when the next thing that comes out is something with a dual core chip or maybe something that is faster then the snapdragon. but i guess we will have to wait and see.

I think I read that the Sprint tab runs better than the VZW tab (or vice versa maybe...) because of less bloat. Either way the one that's best in your area for coverage will have the fastest tablet. A root will take care of the bloat.

Around my town Sprint has the best coverage so that's who I have. VZW can suck it.

The Evo is a real beast of a device, I do so much on it. You really can't go wrong with it but I would hold for just a bit and see what Sprint will unveil next month.

Yeah I love my Evo that I got on launch day...it's a beast. I had used a family member's upgrade (since I had gotten the Hero last February) and I'm the primary on the account so I'm actually eligible for an upgrade right now. I'm waiting for that 'next big thing' from Sprint that runs Android but I have yet to see it. Hopefully Sprint has some good new for me with their announcement tonight but after reading about some of the rumors, I'm not all that impressed.
